Hello readers! It’s been a while since I’ve done a WWW Wednesday. The last time, I announced to you guys that I’m pregnant. And I’m now approaching 7 months along.
I took a little bit of a hiatus this past week because I had finals, and they were very rough. It isn’t even that my schooling is getting hard. It’s just that I’m getting to the point in college where my assignments take a really, really long time. 12 classes to go!
I am now a year away from graduating! I’ll be done with college on August 22nd, 2027, which is insane.
Next week, I have a week off of school, and I hope I can read as much as I can. I’ve been wanting to read this month, but I’ve just not had any time.

Hour of the Pumpkin Queen is the 2nd book in the Pumpkin Queen series. It follows Sally from A Nightmare Before Christmas. There are currently 3 out and five planned.
Book one follows Sally when the Sandman puts everyone to sleep except herself and Zero, and she has to save them. Book one was so fun to read. It adds a lot of lore to this universe. We get to see the other holiday worlds and get a backstory of Sally herself.
In book two, Sally is lost in time. Or, rather, Halloween Town is, and she is trying to fix it. This villain is unknown to us, unlike in book one.
I’m not loving this one as much as I did the previous one, but I am not regretting reading it at all. We continue to see more worlds, including ones that are not holiday-centered.
I do enjoy seeing Sally travel around with other people. We get another ragdoll character named Luna and even a dragon. I would love to see more of Luna in the future.
I would love to see more holiday worlds that aren’t American-centered in the future. For example, Hanukkah, Diwali, or even Ramadan. I found it odd that we see 4th of July world when there isn’t really a mythical being associated with it.
My biggest complaint is that each book has a different writer. I preferred the writing style of book one. This one was a little odd to me.
I do have book three, which came out this year, on hold, and I plan to read it ASAP! I love seeing more from this universe while following Sally’s character.
I came across this book earlier this month, where it was compared to the movie The VVitch, and that is all I needed to read it.
Slewfoot follows a woman named Abitha, who lives in Connecticut in the 1600s. She lives in this extremely religious community who condemn all types of behavior, and she is a very opinionated woman.
We also follow a non-human being who goes by many different titles in the book called Slewfoot. He wakes up from a long sleep and doesn’t know who he is, and there are these little demon children/animals who are trying to help him.
If you end up reading this one as an audiobook, I recommend looking up the character art that the author drew. I’m planning to get myself a copy of this one next month, but I listened to it on audio myself.
I love the atmosphere of this book. There are plenty of creepy moments. It’s such an interesting witchy story where we actually get the perspective of the character being perceived as satan.
I found the witch trials element of this so frustrating because I know these things really happened to people. I actually have an ancestor who was convicted of being a witch. Mary Bradbury, who is my 12th great-grandmother, was convicted of being a witch at the age of 77, but did manage to escape before being killed.
I loved following Abitha’s character, who was very strong-willed. Also, Slewfoot, who was a very nuanced and multifaceted creature. I realized while reading this that I love atmospheric horror. I love stories that show the true evil comes from humans and not beings. There was also a very interesting conversation about religion in this one. If you like witch stories, this will most likely be a win. It was unique to me compared to a lot of the ones I’ve seen and read.
I finally got my hold on Operation Bounce House. I’ve been wanting to try out Dinniman’s all year.
This one follows Oliver and his friends, who are on this alternative Earth named New Sonora. People on Earth can pay money to pilot machines in which they hunt the people of New Sonora down as a real-life video game.
It doesn’t say whether the people who pay know they are hunting real people or not, so I’m excited to find out. It sounds very similar in plot to Ender’s Game, which I haven’t read, but I’ve seen the movie.
