Down the TBR Hole - removing old TBR books from Goodreads list 2026

Hello readers! It’s time for a Down the TBR Hole post. This time, I am hoping to go over first books in series again. Each time I’ve done this series this round, I’ve tried to go through the books based on a theme to make it a bit more interesting.

Don’t forget to check out the first one of this round if you missed it!

Last time, we ended with 209 books and are starting out at 217 on my Want to Read shelf.

If you’ve never heard of Down the TBR Hole before, you go through 5 to 10 books per post on your Want to Read shelf on Goodreads and purge all the ones you know you won’t be getting to anytime soon. If you want to see a more detailed version of how this works, check out Jody’s post.

Sprinkles and Sea Serpents is the first book in the Sugar Shack Witch Mystery series. I may have added this during a time I was looking for more cozy mysteries to read.

This one I am going to remove. The reason is that cozy and fantasy together just do not appeal to me much. I know cozy fantasies are so popular right now, but I never feel compelled to pick one up, even if I put it on my TBR for later.

Before I Let Go is the first book in the Skyland series. This one is a second chance romance following a couple who are divorced.

Kennedy Ryan is a romance author that I’ve wanted to try for a long time now. I believe this book or at least one of them in the series also has autism rep, which is one thing that made me interested in it.

I’m going to keep this one because I still believe I’ll get around to it at some point.

Belladonna is the first book in the Belladonna series. I was super excited to try this series out for a long time, but have lost interest a bit.

To be honest, I just was interested in it because I heard it was good. I actually have no idea what it’s even about. Looking at Goodreads, it is a YA romance, which makes me less interested in trying it.

I am honestly going to remove this one because I don’t know if I’ll ever get to it. Let me know if I’m making a mistake here!

Magnolia Parks is a very popular romance book series. I’m not fully certain what its actually about. I’ve heard some people love it and others really don’t.

I’m not certain if I want to read this still or if I don’t, but I’ll go ahead and keep it for now. I think it can be interesting when you read a book that is so divisive.

The Ornithologist’s Field Guide to Love is the first book in the Love Academic series. From what I see on Goodreads, it’s a historical fantasy romance.

I don’t know why I added this book. I genuinley would say I’ve never heard of it before if I didn’t see it on my own Want to Read shelf. Therefore, I’ll be removing this one.

Symbiote is the first book in a horror sci-fi series called Ice Plague Wars.

This one takes place in a future WWIII in Antartica when a group of Chinese scientists come across an American base.

Moret than a dozen people are brutally murdered and no one knows who did it, but it doesn’t seem human.

I love a good sci-fi horror, even if I don’t pick them up enough. So I’ll be keeping this one for sure.

Moongarden is the first book in a middle grade series called Plotting the Stars. I bought this one last year for a readathon, but never got around to reading it.

All I know about it is that it’s a retelling of Secret Garden, which I also didn’t get around to reading.

However, I do want to keep this one because it’s also on my physical TBR. Once I get around to Secret Garden, I will read this one as well.

Den of Liars is the first book in a YA fantasy romance series called The Devious.

I don’t know why I keep adding books that are YA romances. I know it’s also a fantasy, but I struggle so much to enjoy a book where the MC’s are teens and there is a romance.

I mean, it’s fine. This book is not for my age group and I’m sure those who like YA don’t mind, but I can’t enjoy them anymore.

Orphanage by the Lake is the first book in the Orphanage by the Lake series. This one is a crime thriller series following Hazel, who is a struggling private investigator.

The plot follows Hazel investigating an orphane going missing. I don’t know what it is, but I don’t think I’ll read this. Crime thrillers are generally something I like okay, but they are never really favorites. I’m reading so little these days compared to previous years that I don’t want to just read books that are okay.

The Cookie Crumbles is the first book in a middle grade series called The Cookie Crumbles series.

I added this one both because I love a book that centers food and because I’ve read quite a few books I’ve enjoyed by Alechia Dow.

This series follows best friends Laila and Lucy who find out they are about to be separated by two different high schools next year. Laila is then offered an opportunity to win a baking competition for a full scholarship to a boarding school and Lucy also tries to find her way there as well.

When a judge collapses during the competition, Lucy decides to solve the case to show Laila’s innocence.

I will absolutely be keeping this and hopefully reading it in 2027. I can’t resist a foodie book.
