Hello readers! It’s almost fall, which means it’s time for spooky books. I don’t usually read seasonally, but I’ve noticed that horror and other spooky books have just been working for me lately.
I’ve been doing a readathon this month that is slasher-themed, which I’ve really loved doing. It’s really getting me back into reading.
I was looking forward to September when it gets a little cooler out, but it is somehow hotter where I live than it has been all summer. I’m hoping it gets cooler soon, especially because I am now very pregnant. 😭

I currently have book three in the Pumpkin Queen series on hold. This series follows Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas. In book one, she discovers her own world along with all the other holiday worlds we never got to see in the movie. Halloweentown and every other world have been put to sleep by the Sandman, and she has to fix it.
In book two, Halloweentown is lost in time, and she has to put it back in the present time. In book two, she is traveling with another ragdoll character named Luna, along with a few others. In book one, she was basically alone except for Zero.
Book three is a continuation of book two. We never found out who the villain is in the story, but we were very close to it.
There are things I’ve really enjoyed about these books and others I haven’t or would like to see going forward. So, I’m still excited to keep going.

Despite never having an interest in it, I read Ninth House this month. I am doing this competitive readathon, and the group decided to read a book together.
I picked up Ninth House thinking I probably wouldn’t like it. But I was pleasantly surprised. I don’t think this book was properly marketed. I really only knew it was set at a college and was cult-ish.
Ninth House follows Alex, who joins this society at Yale. She was handpicked to join because she can see these creatures called Grays. This society knows Grays exist, but no one else can see them. The book also has some mystery, murder, possession, necromancy, and horror elements to it, along with the cult.
I am pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed this. The mystery and paranormal elements were the most interesting to me. I also really enjoyed following another character named Darlington. We did not get enough of him.
I would love to see more of the magic system in the next one, but I also understand why there wasn’t time for it. So much is happening in this story all at once. I also want to see more about Alex’s past involving her family.
Book three just came out and is the final book, so I really tried this one at the perfect time.

Big Little Truths is the sequel to Big Little Lies. I was hoping to get to this one sooner, but the wait has been pretty long on Libby. I’m not 10th in line out of nearly 800 people!
Big Little Lies is a mystery book that starts with a murder, and then we shoot back in time way before it happens. I love that format in a mystery book.
We follow different moms through the story and their kids. There is a lot of drama and feuding going on, but we don’t know who has the ability or motive to commit murder.
This one takes place 10 years after when the kids are now in high school, and the principal of the school received a severed finger in the mail.

I would also like to read some scary Christmas or wintry books this year. N0S4A2 is one that has been on my radar for a long time, but I’ve never read. Despite being a lifelong King fan, I’ve never read anything by Joe Hill.
I know this one is about a vampire-like creature that kidnaps children and also follows a woman trying to stop him.
Happy blogging and bookish adventures! 📚🦒✨
