Hello readers! It’s more than halfway through the year, so I think it’s time to do this tag. This is the fourth year in a row I’ve done the firsts of x year.
This tag was created by girlxoxo. So, make sure to check out their post if you are interested!

First Book Read in 2026

I actually cannot remember which book it was, but it was one of the Dr. Seuss books that I read for my Seuss post. I believe I read all of these in one day.
I had a fun time revisiting these books and writing about them in that post. I am working on the next one at the moment, which I hope will come out in the next month.
First Book Reviewed in 2026
I don’t really do reviews on Goodreads much anymore. I haven’t done one in all of 2026. The first books I reviewed were the ones in my January Wrap Up.
First Book by a Debut Author
After looking through what I’ve read this year, I haven’t read anything that is a debut book by an author, either from this year or any other year.
First Book by a New-to-Me Author

I’ve been in a big graphic novel mood in 2026. This one I randomly grabbed at the library because I saw there was food on the cover. I love a food-centered book, so I grabbed it.
I wasn’t expecting how good it would be. It is a middle-grade book, but it goes pretty deep into grief and how it can externally affect your life.
First Book That Slayed Me in 2026

I also happened to give this one five stars. Again, I wasn’t thinking it would be as good as it was.
This one follows Emily, who lives with her aunt because her mom is a businesswoman who is always on the go. When grief strikes the family, Emily and her mother have to deal with this.
Emily’s family owns a bakery and has a magical ability to heal people with their baking. Despite her mother’s warning, Emily decides to bake with the negative emotions she is feeling, which has dire consequences for her and a lot of other people.
First Book of 2026 I Wish I Could Get Back Time Spent Reading

I went into Half His Age expecting a book like My Dark Vanessa. A book that would be very uncomfortable. Just the cover made me uncomfortable.
This one follows a teen girl named Waldo who gets into a relationship with a teacher. This one did make me very uncomfortable, but not in the way I expected.
The relationship seemed to be led by her, which was so odd. It felt like the man was the victim of the story. I also disliked how there were smutty scenes in this book, as if it were a romance. Once I started to feel bad for the man, I really started to become uncomfortable with the entire story. I shouldn’t feel bad for the adult in this dynamic.
I don’t know what McCurdy was trying to do with this book, but it didn’t work. I would still recommend her non-fiction novel, but this one was one I wish I hadn’t read.
Happy blogging and bookish adventures! 📚🦒✨
