Goodreads Was Wrong Book Tag

Hello readers! Today, I am bringing you a tag. This tag was originally created by Booktuber Gabs About Books. The aim of this tag is to show my unpopular opinions.

I just wanted to inform my readers that am planning a long-ish hiatus very soon. I have been so overwhelmed lately from posting on this blog and my Instagram. Between posting on Bookstagram, this blog, and homeschooling my daughter, I am working 7 days a week. So, I will be taking a hiatus from the 5th to the 15th. I’ll be posting on the first and last day, but not in-between. Also, if you leave me a comment here or on Instagram, or message me on Instagram, I will reply to it, I just won’t be posting. I want to be at my best when posting, and I know that break will really help me.

Please comment down below and let me know some of your unpopular opinions!

This is a middle grade duology about this girl and her brother, who have to go live in the country during WWII. I just really disliked the MC. I do recommend this duology! They are good books, just know that the MC is really rude to everyone around her until half way through the second book. It was just frustrating to read. However, I do see why everyone gave it such a high rating.

I had to read this book in school when I was around 12. I LOVED this book. I still own the copy my school gave me. I can understand why everyone seems to hate this book. It is essentially about this kid who is humming along to the national anthem at school and creates this HUGE conflict with this teacher. If I had read this for the first time as an adult, I’m sure I would have sided with the teacher, but I didn’t as a kid. I think in the end that both parties were being unreasonable.

What is the most popular book you disagree with the avg rating? (Sort your books in Goodreads based on number of Ratings, and find the first book you disagree with the avg rating)

I mentioned this in my first Tropes I Hate post, but I cannot stand sick lit. I read this back in 2013, so I didn’t know that at the time. I can’t stand the romanticization of sick teenagers in books or movies. Nowadays, I avoid those books and movies, but back then I didn’t know how much I didn’t like them.

I read this book 10 years ago. However, I do remember it is about two brothers who are princes. The King wanted a daughter, so he forces one of the boys to pretend he is a girl. I would actually love to reread this one day to see if I still enjoy it.

I read Platform Seven last year, at the beginning of the Literally Dead Book Club. I actually really enjoyed this book. However, most people didn’t. This is another one I get. This book is about a woman who was murdered on a railroad. We are following her as a ghost. We also see her past before her death and how she was abused and gaslighted by her boyfriend. I think it is that aspect that people hated. It was, of course, frustrating to read. However, I liked the book overall.

Internment is a dystopian-type world where there are internment camps for Muslim people in America. I think the idea of this story was good, I just didn’t like the actual plot or anything. I don’t like how her boyfriend is Jewish, yet he doesn’t understand what she is going through. Jewish people understand more than anyone.

I also think it would have benefited from having a 2nd POV outside of the camp. Realistically, I just don’t see America bowing down to this happening. I remember when Trump was talking about a Muslim registry in America, and a lot of people said they would register on it, who were not Muslim, just to mess it up. Also, I think there would have been a lot of protesting and division about this happening.

This sort of thing DID happen to Japanese-Americans 80 years ago, so we do have the camps in America available for this to happen again. However, I just think it could have been executed better.

For The Meltdown, I just didn’t like this addition to the series. This one is my least favorite book in the whole series. This particular book is about snowball fights in Greg’s neighborhood.

For The Two Towers, I think I need to reread this one. I listened to a dramatized version of this audiobook, and I think it ruined the experience for me. I like the original audiobooks for the LOTR books and I need to get one of those instead.

I actually don’t have any books for this one. 😂

Do you tend to agree or disagree with GR average rating and do you use GR as a guide for books you want to read?

I think everyone has those books where they don’t agree with ratings. I know we all have biases within to make us feel different about the same things. I don’t always look to Goodreads for reviews, but it is pretty suspicious when a book has a 3.5 or less ratings. It will cause me to seek out more reviews of a book, or I will try to get a copy of the book from the library instead of buying it, just in case.
