The TV Tag

Hello readers! This week I have another non-bookish tag for you guys. I really enjoyed doing the Movie Tag and thought I’d do this one next. I also know of one more non-bookish tag, but it centers horror movies, so I’ll be doing that close to Halloween.

I’m super excited for this one because I am more of a TV person these days than a movie person. When I was in my teens to early 20s, I would say I was more of a movie person, but now I prefer to watch TV shows. I like the aspect of really getting to know the characters.

It was so hard to find a post that mentioned the name of the creator! But, I ended up finding out the creator is Kayley Hyde, who was a Youtuber. As far as I can find, they no longer exist.

Favorite shows?

Are we talking currently or all time? I guess I’ll tell you both!

My favorite show of all time is easily Breaking Bad. There are some close seconds, but that show always wins to me.

Right now, any kind of cooking show. Gordon Ramsay cooking shows, the Great British Baking Show, the Spring/Summer/Kids/Holiday Baking Champioship, Tournament of Champions, or even the Great Food Truck Race.

Favorite genres?

I really like thrillers or anything with some suspense. Like Alice in Borderland, Black Mirror, or Squid Game. That show had me on the edge of my chair most of the time.

Also, true crime. I used to watch true crime shows every day when I got home from school in high school. Once I got older, I started listening to podcasts, but I still watch Evil Lives Here and some others on occasion.

Food! I couldn’t really watch food related shows as a kid. I didn’t enjoy cooking shows until adulthood, but baking shows were not common. I watched the Food Network Challenge as a kid and I think that was the only baking competition show that existed.

Least Favorite shows?

I only have a few to be honest. I don’t like Halloween Baking Championship. I have never been a fan of Halloween. I like spooky stuff, but Halloween has never appealed to me. I tried to watch it because I have watched all the others, but I just couldn’t get through it.

Next Level Chef. I watched the first season of this show a few weeks ago and I don’t see why anyone watches it. I like the idea of it but its lack luster for me.

Any kind of adult humor show. I just don’t think most of them are funny. I don’t think offensive things are funny and most of those shows only make jokes that are offensive.

Big Bang Theory is another. Okay, I don’t dislike this show for the reasons you may think. I don’t think its bad. But, I hate that the creators will not admit that Sheldon Cooper is autistic. He is so clearly autistic and it really upsets me that they wont just admit it because they “don’t want to put a label on Sheldon”. 🤮

Okay, last one. Better Call Saul. We finally watched the entire show in 2023 and I hated it. Mostly the end of the show. I hate that we never got to see him as Saul. Kim’s character dropped all her morals for him, which made no sense for her character.

A certain character that Saul made look absolutely crazy before they just killed said character off was unnecessary. Some of the show was good, but in general, I did not enjoy it.

Most rewatched show/favorite show to rewatch?

Breaking Bad! I have watched that show nearly once a year for the last 10 years. Every time I watch it, I am so amazed by how good it is. The characters, the plot, the twists, the secrets *chefs kiss*.

Do you prefer to watch week-by-week or binge watching?

I’d rather watch things at my own pace. To be honest, if a show comes on week-by-week, I’ll just wait a couple of weeks if not the entire time to watch the show. I can’t risk an episode having a cliffhanger by watching them one at a time.

Favorite TV characters?

Mike from Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul. Honestly, I enjoyed seeing a lot of Better Call Saul focusing on him. He was a great character who family oriented along with being a bit scary.

Wednesday Addams. I really love the entire Addams family being so unapologetically themselves. Has anyone watched the original show? I watched it on Netflix or something in high school. It was on either that or Hulu. They took so much of what made it amazing out when they made the movies, but I get why. TV has changed a lot over the years.

Arisu and Cheshire from Alice in Borderland. I just love seeing characters who would not otherwise succeed managing to do so in the worst circumstances. These two survive on their brains alone.

Oh my gosh, also Niragi from the same show. Hear me out! I love that this character is purely evil and never changes. That story where the bad guy eventually becomes friends with the good guys has been done a million times. And, this isn’t the case for Niragi. Of course, this could change in the future, but I don’t think it will.

Also, Naruto. We didn’t finish Naruto Shippuden last year, but we did watch over 300 episodes of it. And, it really gave me an appreciation for his character. I hated Naruto in the original show and really loved Sasuke, but honestly have flipped. He is a classic anime MC. Just pure of heart, always willing to sacrifice his life for others, and only gets more powerful by the day.

Favorite television ships?

Show you could never get into?

I would say Next Level Chef. I watched an entire season before I realized it wasn’t for me.

This may be controversial, but Stranger Things. I’ve tried to watch this show 2 or 3 times and can never make it past season a few seasons. I just don’t see what other people see in this series.

Show you fell out of love with?

I literally have so many. And, not for a real reason for most of these. I just sort of stopped watching and never went back.

Royal Pains was one. I watched a couple seasons and then just quit.

Greys Anatomy. I LOVE that show, but its just too long. I think I’ve watched 17 or 18 seasons, but dang.

The 100 is another. We watched 2 seasons of this show before quitting. Then, we tried to rewatch the show to finish it and can never get past the first couple of episodes. I cannot tell you how many times my husband and I have watched the first 3 to 4 episodes of The 100.

The Umbrella Academy. I watched it when the first season came out, then rewatched the first season when there were a couple more seasons, but never went on to the rest. I don’t even know why that is.

Cancelled too soon?

Freaks and Geeks! I know this show was before my time, but I have watched it. I don’t even know why it was cancelled after just one season.

Guilty pleasure show?

1000 lb sisters. Don’t ask me why, but I love that show. We haven’t actually watched the entirety of the most recent season.

Despite being a Youtube lover for half my life, I actually never watched them on Youtube. I am happy to see how far they have come with both of the sisters weight loss along with their brother and other members of the family jumping in on it.

What are you currently watching?

Recently, I have been watching Spring Baking Championship and Tournament of Champions as it comes out. I recently finished watching the American version of Kitchen Nightmares and am not sure what to watch next.

  1. Arisu and Chishiya are great characters and I also really like Niragi and everything he brings to the show. I do agree, sometimes people are just bad, we don’t need redemption arcs or anything. Especially for a show with those conditions, there needs to be bad people, it’s not beliavable otherwise.

Also yes, a lot of shows have gone on for too long, so they end up losing its appeal.

  2. Wednesday has always been a favorite character of mine. I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I did also like Squid Games.
