Alli the Book Giraffe

Hello readers! Today’s post is one I have been thinking about a lot lately. Do I read the books I haul? So, I thought we could go back through the years and see all my hau posts OR Stacking the Shelves, and see what of those I’ve read, DNF’d, have left unread, and unhauled.

I will only be discussing physical books, not ebooks.

2021

Spring Book Haul – May 17, 2021

Hauled Books – 18

Read Books:

I thought I’d go ahead and tell you whether I had read the books before I bought them, because there is a good portion of the read books in this post that I had read before.

For the ones above, I had read the entire Cirque Du Freak series when I was in high school. It has always been one of my favorites and I finally bought a box set of it.

Unread:

Of the three that I have unread, I attempted to read two. I am currently trying to read Malice one more time before unhauling it.

For Legendborn, I got a good chunk into the book before there was this giant info dump and I got really confused from there and just never went back to the book, so I ended up unhauling it.

Unhauled – 2

I did end up reading Restore Me and really didn’t like it, so I unhauled the entire series. I probably should’ve kept the original trilogy because I loved it, but I was not a fan of this continuation.

Autumn Book Haul – October 25, 2021

All of these were read after I bought them.

I attempted to read A Boy Called Christmas before I unhauled it and just couldn’t get into it for some reason.

14 Ways to Die is a YA thriller. It wasn’t a bad book or anything, but I didn’t love it either. I just randomly picked it up at the bookstore because it was 5 dollars.

2022

Spring Book Haul – March 31, 2022

Read Books:

Of all these books, I only had read We Were Liars before buying it. I bought a copy because a sequel was released that will appear later on.

Unread:

Unhauled – 1

I bought this book from my local library. It’s a middle grade graphic novel. It was just a 3 star read for me. Nothing that really stood out, so I unhauled it.

2023

First Quarter Book Haul – March 12, 2023

Hauled Books – 11

Read Books:

I had actually read 4 out of 5 of these before purchasing them. My local library was selling Born a Crime, which I also own on ebook, and Pet, so I bought myself a copy of them.

Then She Was Gone was the first book I read by Lisa Jewell, but I listened to it on audio through Libby. It’s one of my favorite mystery/thrillers and she is probably my favorite author within that genre.

I had read Lord of the Fly Fest before buying it and once I saw it at the book store on sale, I couldn’t resist getting a copy!

Read Books:

I have read all the books here (besides 3 of the Narnia books) before buying them. I picked up Omar Rising and I am Malala from my library book sale and finally got myself a copy of the Narnia series so I can finish it.

Unread:

Unhauled – 0

Conclusion

In conclusion, yes, but mostly no. I have read 30 and not read 46 that I own, with 20 that I read before I bought them. I thought it was important to make this distinction because I think it would be inflating my numbers a bit otherwise.

Mostly, I am shocked at how little I have unhauled. I don’t do unhauls often, but most of the time I’m unhauling books I’ve read and disliked.

I’m happy that I had at least one book on the read list for every single one, except one haul from this year.
