Hello readers! It’s another day of Blogmas, and this time we are going to talk about my reading goals for 2025. I don’t have many this upcoming year, but I’m still excited to achieve them!
If I don’t have an entire year of a slump again, these should be VERY easy to achieve for me. I haven’t read this little in about 6 or 7 years, so it’s been a weird one. And I didn’t necessarily have a ton of 5 stars to make up for the lack of numbers.
Goal 1:: Goodreads Goal
I’m going to start low here and go for 75 books in 2025. I would love to read a TON more than that, but I also don’t want to overshoot it. Plus, seeing that thing on Goodreads where it says you are 10 books behind brings me stress. I love being ahead, but being behind isn’t fun even a little bit.
However, I think I’ll read a lot. I am going to do this TBR game and that will help push me to read too. I love having challenges to meet and this will give me a new challenge every single month!
Goal 2:: Big Books
My second goal is to read more big books. You guys probably don’t know this, but I used to exclusively read big books. I wouldn’t even consider reading a book under 300 pages, unless it was middle grade.
I miss that era of my life! I love big books, but I have found myself reading more and more books under 200 pages.
I notice one thing that helps me is to read a big book while reading something smaller at the same time. So, I can go back and forth. I noticed this past year or so that I just get exhausted of the same book after a while. But, it does help if I have a break in-between.
I don’t have a number goal or anything, but I will just try to have a 500+ book going at all times and that might help me. It’ll also help me to take my time.
I’m one of those people who will either take over a month to read a 500+ page book or I’ll read it in 3 days. 😂
Goal 3:: Owned Books
This could change by the end of the year, but I own over 80 books I haven’t read. I don’t like this number one bit! I got my TBR down to less than 20 back in 2018 and 2019, so I’d like to do it again.
I am thinking of doing some try a chapter posts where I try a chapter of a book and see if I even want to keep it. Some of these books have sat on my TBR shelf for too many years. And I just hate that.
I don’t think I’ll get my TBR down to 20 or anything like that, but I would still like to get it down as far as possible. I will be consciously trying to read a book off my shelf every single month, or attempting to unhaul ones I just know I won’t ever get to.
Goal 4:: Diversity
One thing I have tried to do over the past 5 or so years is diversify my reading. In 2024, I feel like I fell out of it badly.
Of course, I always think anyone’s reading can be better no matter what, and I was no exception. I had some goals in 2024 to read more disability representation and I didn’t manage it.
Nearly 26% of the books I read this year had some sort of diversity in it, but I know I can do and have done better. And by diversity, I mean POC, disability, or LGBT representation. I track other types of diversity, too. Like religion and stuff, but that isn’t something I try to read more or less of.
In 2023, only 38% of the books I read didn’t have any diversity in it, so my percentage has DRASTICALLY changed. I am going to rectify this in 2025!
