Hello readers! I was planning out my posts for this month when I realized I don’t think I’ve ever made a post telling you guys how to get ARCs. I made a post on IG, and even posted it to Tik tok and Threads about this, but never here.
This is one of those things that I think people gatekeep and I don’t like that! So, here are six ways to get ARCs.
I do want to say that you just have to put yourself out there! The worst that can happen is you get rejected for the ARC. Follow these steps and you will easily start getting ARCs, no matter how small your account/s are.
Through ARC Websites
If you have been in the community for any amount of time, you probably know of Netgalley. But, did you know there are many other sites like it? Some that even focus on Indie authors.
If you are looking for traditionally published ARCs, try Netgalley (of course) or Edelweiss+.
If you are looking for indie ARCs, try BookSirens, Booksprout, or Hidden Gems.
If you make a BookSirens account, authors will start reaching out to you.
Follow Authors on Social Media
If you follow Indie authors on Tik tok or Instagram, many of them will post when they are looking for ARC readers, street team members, or may even ask for permanent ARC readers for their team. This is how I have gotten on some permanent ARC teams of some of my favorite authors.
Don’t worry if you only have 100 followers on your platform! Most of them want a Goodreads and Amazon review, and do not care how many followers you have. And, I cannot stress enough that you just have to apply! Nothing bad other than them saying no can happen.
Just know that like 80% of authors who post on social media like this are romance authors, but there are a few in other genres.
Hashtags on Social Media
On Instagram, type in and #arcreaderswanted and #arcreadersneeded, and then follow the hashtags. After a few days, the authors seeking ARC readers will start showing up on your regular feed.
For Tik tok, you just need to search #arcreaderswanted, and filter it to the most recent 24 hours to see who is seeking ARC readers.
Influencer Programs
Every major publisher has a website where you can apply for their influencer program. Basically, you fill out the form and they will send you an email once every 3 months or so with physical and e-ARC opportunities.
This is your best bet at getting a physical ARC as most indie authors don’t do them.
Below are some that I know of that you can apply for!
HarperCollins Children’s Books
Subscribe to Newsletters
If you know of an indie author you love, a great way to be the first to know about ARCs from them is through their newsletter. I get at least 10 to 15 different authors monthly newsletters.
Some of them will only post about their ARCs through their email and others will talk about it on their email first. And, so many of them will also send you links when their ebooks or similar authors ebooks are free on Amazon or other places.
PR Companies and Other Sources
The last way is to join or follow PR companies on social media.
Ones I know you can apply through are Unalive Promotions and Valentine PR, but there are a ton of others out there.
Another place is the ARC Dragons Facebook. The ARC dragons started as a group on Instagram and migrated to Facebook. Authors can ask for ARC readers directly on there, so you can find just about anything.
