Hello readers! Today’s post is about series I am quitting. I did this post once beefore for Blogmas 2023. So, for this post I will go over series I started in the past two years that I won’t be finishing.
I’ve started 12 series in the past two years and have finished only one of them so far. But, I can’t complain. I started over TWENTY in 2023. Having a KU subscription in 2023 had me trying new series left and right.
I’ve actually done well in 2025! I have started 6 series and finished 4, one of which was one I started this year. I don’t think I’ve ever had a ratio that good.

I read the first three books and the companion novellas in January last year. I was enjoying the series until book 3. I just didn’t like the way that infertility was handled in the book and it just put me off to the series.
It was also the novella after that one, too. I went ahead and read it and I found the MMC to be really annoying. I know the next book will have an all knew character, but I haven’t wanted to pick up another book in this series since I read all of these.

I read this one to hit a challenge for the Buzzwordathon in 2024. I honestly can’t remember what the challenge was.
This was a why choose romance and it was just too empty. Not enough character or relationship development for me.
I thought it would be fine because I liked the Wicked Villains series by this author, but everything I’ve read since that series by her I haven’t liked.

The Crowns of Nyaxia series was one I was sure I’d like. It’s a vampire romance series following a human girl trying to prove herself in this vampire world.
She joins this tournament where they have to kill each other until only one is left. It wasn’t bad or anything. I just wasn’t connecting with the story nor was a I enjoying it at all.

Binti is a scifi series following a woman on a journey to another planet where she will be attending college. While she is on the ship, it gets taken over by these aliens who want to kill everyone on the planet she is going to, and she spends the book trying to convince them not to.
I just didn’t enjoy the story. I thought it was interesting before she left her planet, but once the journey started, I wasn’t enjoying it. I didn’t think the horror was scary enough either.
Binti was fine, but just not for me.

All the series I mentioned so far were started in January 2024. I really wasn’t having a good reading month.
Red Rising follows a 16-year-old boy/man who is a Red. He is a technically a boy being 16, but he also has a whole job and a wife.
Reds live underground on Mars and are essentially slaves, but they don’t know that. They think they are working toward colanizing Mars. However, there are people who already live there.
In the beginning of the book, a big event happens that triggers the MC Darrow to go above ground to pretend to be a Gold, who are the rich people on Mars. There are other colors as well.
Anyhow, I really enjoyed the first half of the book. But the second half had this competition that I just didn’t care for. If you like scifi books, I would still recommend reading this if you are interested! I feel that way about most these series I’ve mentioned so far. In this case, it was all me and not the books.

One I didn’t start in 2024, but I read book two is Fourth Wing or the Empyrean series. I really loved Fourth Wing.
I even read it TWICE in 2023. And you guys know I don’t ever reread books. I’ve only reread a book in the same year two times in my life.
Iron Flame was really disappointing for me. I can’t really say why because I don’t want to spoil anything for those who haven’t read either book.
I honestly skimmed the last 100 pages because I wanted to finish it, but I also wasn’t enjoying it at all.

The only one I have from 2025 is the Vanderbeekers series. This is a middle grade fiction book.
It follows a family of 7 who are being evicted from their apartment, which they find out right before Christmas. The kids try to do everything they can to prevent it from happening. It was honestly a cute story.
I actually really liked this book, but I just don’t have any desire to continue. I think it would’ve been fine as a standalone book. If you like really cute and happy books, I HIGHLY recommend this one. It would also work if you are looking for a Christmas book to try this year as it takes place during that time.
Happy blogging and bookish adventures! 📚🦒✨
