Hello readers! Let’s talk about Goodreads goals. This week for Book Blogger Hop, I am discussing how I approach setting my Goodreads goal each year.
Check out my Book Blogger Hop Masterlist to see more Book Blogger Hop posts I’ve done!
If you’ve never heard of Book Blogger Hop, it is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addict. Each week a discussion topic is given and many book bloggers post based on that topic. New topics start on Friday and end the following Thursday. I personally always post my answers on Sundays.

25th – 31st – If you set a goal on Goodreads, do you place it realistically, lower than what you think you will read, or higher than you think you will reach?
I personally put my goal where I think I will hit it, at least this year. In 2025, I set it at 75. But deep down, I wanted to hit over 100 as a stretch goal.
I used to by default just set it at 100. I would usually hit 100 every year and so it just made sense.
But in the past two years, I haven’t been reading as much. I only read 33 books in 2024, and I’ve read 21 this year.
For me, the Goodreads Challenge is supposed to be fun and motivating, not stressfull. I know a lot of people have refused to do it or only set it to 1 these days because it can be too much pressure. BUT the best part about a Goodreads goal is you can change it!
In 2024, I set mine to 200 and slowly lowered it over the year because I wasn’t reading much. It was a stretch goal for me. I managed to read 129 books in 2023 and so I thought it’d be fun to try for 200.
The past two years have been tough for me and that has impacted my reading greatly. I can’t focus on reading when I’m not in a good place mentally.
In 2025, I just wanted to fall back in love with reading and read like I used to. I don’t know if I’ll ever read over 100 books again, but I am really enjoying what I’m reading. I’m trying to prioritize reading bigger books instead of a higher number of books, too.
I saw this year there are achievements on Goodreads. I was just looking at it for this post and I’ve hit 6 out of the 15 in 2025, 3 of the January to April challenge, 5 from the May-June challenge, and I’ve hit 2 for the summer one. That’s pretty good knowing I wasn’t really trying to collect them.
I haven’t been trying to collect them, but I might pay more attention to them now that I realized the seasonal ones are there.
Do you guys aim to do any of these new acheivements? I know they are supposed to motivate us to read more, but I honestly keep forgetting they are there.
Happy blogging and bookish adventures! 📚🦒✨
