Summer Book Unhaul

Hello readers! It’s time for a book unhaul. I’ve been wanting to get around to doing one of these for a while now.

As you guys know, I’m trying to get my phyiscal TBR down, so I have been trying to read and even DNF to unhaul some books this year. And it’s been a long time since I unhaule some books. My last unhaul was back in 2023 when I unhauled 25 books off my shelves.

Let’s talk about the 10 books I plan on unhauling from my shelves!

I can’t remember if it was in April or May, but one of those months I said if I didn’t read this book in that month that I’d just unhaul it and that is what I am planning to do.

I did read the prologue and the first chapter, but then put it down and never went back to it. I just don’t think these dense fantasy books are always for me.

I just have a hard time getting into them a lot of times. I’m not even sure why because I have read some in the past.

Both of these books are ones I just don’t think I want to read anymore.

I picked up Sweet Tooth from my library because I had read the author before, and honestly cannot find the motivation to read the book. The ratings are also really bad on Goodreads, so that doesn’t give me a lot of hope.

Sweet Tooth was also in that TBR jar I was doing where I pick a book from it and unhaul it if I don’t read it.

I really should bring the jar back! It was helping me pick through some of these books. I actually used it in a TikTok video to decide not to read another book on this unhaul.

The Haters is one I’ve owned the longest. I mentioned it on my TBR Vets post and it made my realize I probably won’t read it. I also picked up The Haters because it was by an author I’ve read from before.

Wolf by Wolf is another one I’ve had for a long time and just never have gotten around to. I don’t even remember why I bought this book. I think maybe I was interested in the alternative history parts of it. I’m not sure.

However, I just don’t think I’ll ever read this book. After all these years, I don’t have any want to read it. I am going to go ahead and unhaul it to get it off my TBR and my shelf space.

More than this Patrick Ness

I have picked this book up off my shelves many times in the past and just never can get into it.

I know it follows a boy who wakes up after dying, and that is about it.

I have heard good things about this author, so I might try something else by him down the road instead. Should I give Patrick Ness another try?

About once a year Celadon will send me an ARC of a book, usually after the book has already been released.

I’ve kept both of these for years thinking I’ll read them. But, I don’t think I will.

Kingdoms of Savannah was 2022, The Woman inside was 2023, then The Fury by Alex Michaelides in 2024, and now Notes on Infinity by Austin Taylor.

I had never even heard of these books before a copy of them showed up at my house, and maybe that is why they sent them to me.

The Year of the Witching came out in 2020, and I remember really enjoying it at the time. I was excited for the sequel that has never come, and now I have lost interest.

I don’t think I liked this enough to reread it once a sequel does come, if that happens.

I bought Cemetery Boys right after it came out in 2020, and still haven’t read it. I have tried a few times to read this one, and I just can’t get into it.

I think I kept it for so long because it is diverse. The author and main character are both trans and Latinx. But I realized that isn’t a good reason to keep a book. I can find plenty of other books to read instead of this one with diverse representation.

I did a TikTok where I pulled books out of my TBR jar and read a chapter to decide if I still want to read them a few months ago. When I got this book, it really became clear I wouldn’t ever read it.

I really need to bring that video back. I think I did two of them and then never went back to it.

This is one I wanted to read for a long time and finally got around to in January. It follows a young girl who struggles with navigating the world while being fat.

I was never a kid who was chubby in any way, so I thought maybe that is why I didn’t think it was super realistic. This character is bullied by every single person she knows for her size, and maybe that does happen to people, but I don’t know.

The dad allowing the mom to be the most fatphobic to her entire life is insane to me. He never really gets redeemed either.

I really just hate in middle grade books when characters have completely un-self aware adults. Sure, there are plenty of parents out there who are not the brightest, but I just think this was a little absurd at times.

I thought about passing it on to my daughter, but honestly I don’t know what she can gain from this book.

Happy blogging and bookish adventures! 📚🦒✨

  1. Not reading books after owning them for a few years sounds like a very good reason to unhaul them to me. Enjoy the extra space on your shelves 😀
