WWW Wednesday

Hello readers! It’s time for another WWW Wednesdsay post. It’s a midweek check-in where we talk about what we’ve been reading, what we just finished, and what’s coming up next. My reading week has been pretty good and I’ve got a few thoughts to share. Let’s jump into it!

What are you reading?
The Passengers John Marrs

I started The Passengers this week. It follows many different POVs of people with different walks of life who get stuck in smart cars and are told that they will die in 48 hours.

I know the cars are set on some sort of collision course and it’s broadcast on live TV.

I’m only a few chapters in and am just getting to know all the characters, but I’m enjoying it.

the Gargoyle Protector by Rebecca F Kenney

I recently added book three in the Immortal Warriors series being Wendy, Darling to my June TBR. Even though I’ve heard the series can be read out of order, I decided to backtrack and pick up book two first.

This one follows a princess who’s assigned a gargoyle bodyguard after her previous protector is badly injured. With enemies constantly threatening her royal family, she’s essentially a prisoner for her own safety.

I’m only about an hour into the audiobook, so I’m still getting my bearings, but I’m intrigued by the setup so far.

Honestly, reading Beautiful Villain and Charming Devil recently made me realize just how much I’ve missed this author’s writing. I haven’t picked up anything by her since 2023! It feels so good to be diving back in.

What Did You Read Last?

The last book I finished was Charming Devil. I was actually wrong about this being a vampire series. Book one was, but this one is not.

Charming Devil is a dual POV retelling of Picture of Dorian Gray following Baz and Dorian, but we mostly are following Baz.

Baz has a power where she can make people immortal when she paints them. Dorian was painted by a past relative of her many years in the past and now wants it to be redone because it is falling apart.

I really enjoyed this one even though I was bummed there were no vampire involved. The dynamic between Baz and Dorian was a highlight. Dorian is the kind of person who’s used to everyone falling at his feet, completely obsessed with himself, but Baz isn’t afraid to challenge him. She’s refreshingly blunt and tells him “no” when others won’t.

I also LOVE that the author made Dorian LGBT. The original author, Oscar Wilde, was a gay man who was imprisoned for his sexuality. I think making a queer retelling is such a meaningful way to honor his legacy. It really makes me wonder what Dorian would’ve been like if Wilde had written it in a time when he could be fully open.

What will you read next?
Husbands Holly Gramazio

I am very close to getting my hold on Libby for The Husbands, so I’ll probably read that one next.

I know this is a fantasy book following a woman whose husband keeps going up to the attic and when he comes down, he looks like a different person. And no one else is noticing it except her.

I heard about this from BooksandLala on Booktub. Even though we don’t usually have the same reading taste, the concept of the book really stood out to me. I think it sounds like an interesting and fun concept, so I can’t wait to read it!
