2025 Reading Goals & Challenges Update

Hello readers! I was going back and forth on whether to do this post, and I decided I’m just going to do it. You guys always seem to like my reading goal updates, so let’s see how I did!

I’ll wait to post any reading stats as I haven’t read that much in 2025 yet.

And I’ll let you guys know what I’m planning to read for the next few months for Buzzwordathon, too.

If you missed these posts back in December, be sure to check out my 2025 Reading Goals post and 2025 Reading Challenges.

Reading Goals

My Goodreads goal is 75. I am currently 8 books behind schedule, but I am not going to lower it at this point. I totally think 75 is still completely doable for 2025 for me. But we can always reassess in 3 months.

I wasn’t really sure how to gauge this one, so I am going off average page count. In 2024, my average page count was 265 and it is currently 355. So, it seems like I am reading bigger books so far.

I’ve read two books over 500 pages, out of the 12 I’ve finished.

7 out of the 12 books I’ve read have been owned books. And I am currently reading another book I own. I 100% am doing amazing on this one!

I have bought quite a few books in 2025 so far (keep an eye out for another haul this Saturday), but I’ve also made a big dent in the TBR I already had. When I make my wheel of TBR videos, I really try to pick out a book I own, so I can manage to get my TBR down as far as I can.

I actually mention this in my post for tomorrow because I didn’t think I would end up doing this one, but I’ve done amazing on this goal!

In 2024, only 26% of the books I had read were diverse in some capacity, and now 20% of the books I have read in 2025 have no type of diversity in them. I track all types of diversity, but I am mostly focusing on POC, disability, and LGBT rep. I am really happy at how well I’ve done this so far.

Reading Challenges

In January, I set the goal to read Family of Liars for truth and lies in the title, and I did end up getting to that one.

For February, I set the goal to read Black Water Sister by Zen Cho because water was in the title. I didn’t read that one, but I did read Adrifts in Currents Clean and Clear by Seanan McGuire.

For March, I wanted to read Loud: Accept Nothing Less Than the Life You Deserve by Drew Afualo for a book with thing in the title. I did not read this or anything else for this prompt. I was honestly thinking of trying to make it up later in the year.

So, let’s talk about April through June! For April, we have animals. The book I was hoping to read for this one is MAUS Vol 2.

May’s Buzzword is TO and TOO and the book I want to read for that is Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating, which is a book I own.

June’s Buzzword is memory words. I thought about Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella, which also happens to be a book I own and haven’t read.

I did not read a single book I intended to read for January to March, but I did read a book for January and February.

In January, I set the goal to read More Than This by Patrick Ness for a patterned cover. I ended up unhauling that book and reading Starfish by Lisa Fipps.

For February, the prompt was skyline, and I wanted to read Magnolia Parks, but I didn’t get around to it. So, I read Titan’s Curse by Rick Riordan.

March was books on the cover, and I set Inkheart for this originally, and then changed it to Mr. Lemocello’s Very First Game. I didn’t get to it in March, but I am hoping to get to it this month instead.

Now, let’s talk about what I’ll get to in the next 3 months!

The April prompt for the cover is also animals, so we are doubling up with MAUS Vol 2.

May is eyes, which I was nearly stumped on. But I think I’ll go with a middle grade series I saw at the library recently called The Beast and the Bethany. I think it counts when you can see more than just an eye.

June is celestial, so I am hoping to go for Tress of the Emerald Sea, which has a moon on the cover.

I totally forgot I even set this goal! I’ll have to write the challenges down somewhere so I remember they exist down the line.
