Let’s Talk Bookish: Blog Name Origin

problematic authors

Hello readers! It’s time for Let’s Talk Bookish. I’m super excited for this one because I suggested this topic!

I was thinking about making a post about how I picked my blog’s name, but I also love seeing how other people picked theirs, so I suggested it as a topic for LTB.

Prompts: How did you pick your book blog’s name? Have you ever changed it? Have you ever thought about changing it? What are some of your favorite book blog names?

So, some of you may know that I used to do booktube. I had a completely different name back then. It was Ally’s Bookish Life. However, I noticed that some people who didn’t speak English as their first language had a hard time saying the name.

And, when I started my blog a few years later, I had to think of something new. I had such a hard time picking the original name I had, so this wasn’t easy.

Then, I thought about different book community members who have animals connected to their names. Most people pick book worm or owl, as these are associated with books or knowledge in general.

But, I wanted something closer to my own self. I actually wonder sometimes if people think I picked giraffes because I’m tall. I’m 5’1”, so that is not the case at all.

It’s actually pretty simple. I picked giraffes because that has always been my favorite animal.

I also transitioned from the spelling of Ally to Alli in my 20s. I never really liked it with a Y. Honestly, no one really calls me Alli in my real life. I go by my full name, Allison, to mostly everyone I know.

I thought about picking a fake name for a long time, too. I’ve seen a lot of people in the book community and even authors go by a name that isn’t really theirs. Does anyone here go by a fake name?

  1. This is a fun topic. My blog has tranisitioned from a blog about teaching to a book blog. My teaching blog’s title was Wicked Witch’s blog ( I always felt I became the wicked witch in my classroom on a Friday afternoon. Now I’m blogging about books, I thought it needed a change of title so it became witchyreading instead.
