My Opinons on Popular Booktok Books 2

Hello readers! I made this post back in December called My Opinions on Popular Booktok Books and you guys seemed to really enjoy it, so I am here to make another one. If you click on the link back to my original post, you can see what I talked about before AND I linked some similar posts by other bloggers at the bottom of it.

What is the best or worst booktok book that you’ve read?

I can’t believe I didn’t mention this book in the last one. I think there is this trend right now where contemporary romances are HUGE and I don’t love it.

I will happily read a 400+ page romance if it were mixed with fantasy or something, but I am not into this.

The most interesting parts to me were the mystery/thriller aspects and honestly that was the first 50 pages and the last 100.

I think this would’ve been a higher rating for me if it were much shorter. I also read book two and will probably get to book three at some point. I did like book two more, but still think it could’ve been half the size.

Honestly, if you do pick this series up, I think it’s best read as just 5 parts of one book. To me, it felt like it was 5 parts of one story and not 5 seperate books.

However, I really loved this series. I wasn’t too in love with it once I finished book one, but the more you read and learn, the better.

It follows a serial killer named Lana who is killing a bunch of men who caused her dad to be imprisoned for murders he did not commit. And, also men who did horrible things to her and her brother.

She is also dating an FBI agent who is investigating all of the murders along with another serial killer. It is honestly SOOO good and a bit spicy as well.

All of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books are pretty popular on Booktok, but these are the ones that I have actually read.

Both of these books I went in thinking I wouldn’t love it because they have something I don’t typcially enjoy, but ended up really giving both 4 stars. So, I can’t complain.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is historical and I don’t usually love that setting. However, I didn’t know it was LGBT and I really loved that about it.

For Daisy Jones, it is interview format and I hate interview format. However, I listened to it on audio and it just felt like I was listening to an interview of a band. I did end up really liking it in the end.

I need to read more of her books in the future! I love going into something with assumptions that I won’t like the book and then being proven wrong.

I read Shatter Me nearly 10 years ago now for the first time and LOVED these books. I then reread them in 2021/22 to read the new books. I regret that completely.

I LOVE Shatter Me, but book 4 was one of the worst books I read in 2023. I don’t understand why this trilogy needed to be added to. Mafi has plenty of other books to focus on and for some reason she decided on that.

I know this isn’t one of the most popular booktok books, but it is VERY popular on indie booktok and is definitely picking up speed in other areas of Booktok.

This is my absolute favorite book of 2023 by far. There are currently 4 books with a novella being released in February. They are all retellings along with many of Kenney’s other books.

I don’t reread books often, unless it’s been so long that I forgot them, but I am considering rereading this book in 2024. I miss the characters and the world so much.
