Reader Confessions Book Tag

Hello readers! It’s Thursday and that means it’s time for the first tag of August. I hope everyone’s reading is going well. It’s always satisfying to start off a reading month strong. Have you finished a book yet?

I have searched high and low through YouTube, WordPress, and even Google and cannot find who created this tag. If you know, let me know and I’ll credit them.

Have you ever damaged a book?

I would be lying if I said no. I used to read in the bathtub when I was a teen and dropped at least two books in the tub at the time. From what I can remember, I dropped my copy of Holes by Louis Sachar and one of the Bobbsey Twins books as well.

Have you ever damaged a borrowed book?

This one is a bit embarrasing, but I also dropped a library book in water once. It was a Stephen King book and I dropped it in the toilet. Don’t worry, the water was clean! I returned the book expecting to be charged. However, the library didn’t even notice. This also happened when I was still in high school. I don’t take books into the bathroom anymore, so this hasn’t happened in a long time.

How long does it take you to read a book?

It really depends on how much I’m enjoying it and how dense it is. If I love the book, I’ll read it super fast. If a book is a high fantasy with a ton of worldbuilding and magic to remember, it will take me much longer than normal.

When it comes to audiobooks, I can sometimes listen at 2.25 speed. That would only be for a romance, thriller, or literary novels. I could not do that through a fight scene in a fantasy book.

My favorite part of a story is the ending and I just can’t wait to get to it, so I read as fast as I can to get there! What is your favorite part of a story? I assume those who enjoy the journey the most will read slower than others.

Books you haven’t finished

I started this one last month when my power was out. I have been reading a few pages here and there, but it isn’t at the top of my priority list at the moment. However, I do want to finish it in 2023!

I started Surprise Me last month and just got distracted by other books. It follows a married couple who have been together for 10 years. It was really good, I just haven’t picked it back up just yet.

I’m making my way through Words of Radiance. I’m hoping to slowly read it over the course of a month or two. I divided it up into pages to read every day and I’m doing my best to read my section each day.

Hyped or popular book that you thought were on OK or disliked

I reawlly loved Radio Silence when I read it, but I just can’t get into Heartstopper. I even pushed through book 2 in the series to see if I would like it more. However, I just don’t get the hype. I know everyone loves this series, but I just don’t.

Is there a book you wouldn’t tell anybody that you’re reading?

I am way past the point of being embarrassed of what I like to read. I wouldn’t hide my reading from anyone! Book Twitter is full of people, especially Booktubers, who shame people for enjoying books by Sarah J. Maas or Colleen Hoover. I’m not going to hide liking Sarah J. Maas to impress them or anyone.

How many books do you own?

I own roughly 415 books. I have a book log on Google Sheets, but I know a few are missing from the list.

Are you a fast or slow reader?

I am a fast reader. I don’t know a lot of readers and am the fastest reader I know. Every time my husband or mom and I are reading an article together or something, I can get through it so fast they think I am lying about reading it. It just comes from reading as long as I have. I started reading for fun around 12 and have only read more and more as an adult.

Do you like to buddy read?

I LOVE buddy reading. If you are reading this right now and want to buddy read something with anyone, let me know! It would be fun to make a group in the community.

I buddy read House of Earth and Blood with a bunch of people on Instagram a long time ago. Each day we read 5 chapters in the book and would discuss them with each other.

I do think I would’ve enjoyed this book anyway, but the experience of reading it with other people just made it all the better. The creator of that buddy read, Books in my Blood, eventually started a book club after this buddy read went so well.

Do you read better in your head or aloud?

I usually just read in my head, but I do read aloud if I’m having trouble with concentration.

If you were only allowed to have one book, what would it be and why?

I’m going to go with House of Earth and Blood again. It was one of my favorite books I’ve ever read and I know I wouldn’t mind rereading it a few tines.

  1. Yeah I don’t really get the whole book-shaming things either. Not for genre, not for author, not for format of it either. My only issue is probably ethics of supporting authors, so I’ve not indulge in some authors even if I would be interested in their works, due to their problematic personas. But the rest I don’t get, no.
