Hello readers! Today’s post is the mid-year freak-out tag. This is my third time doing this tag and I honestly look forward to it each year.

Best Book You’ve Read in 2023

Yellowface was my first book back into reading once I took my big break over the Spring. I loved it so much. The MC is a white woman who steals work from her Chinese friend who dies in a crazy accident.
This book and Kuang has so much to say about the publishing industry when it comes to POC authors. Also, that ending was absolutely WILD. I’m not sure if she will write a sequel, but I would immediately read it if she did.
Best Sequel You’ve Read in 2023

This was a reread, but I still enjoyed it as much as the first time. This is the only one I remembered fully before rereading the part of the series I read before. I had some new favorites in the series, but this one remains my favorite.
New Release You Have Yet to Read

I haven’t read anything by Sanderson in 2023, but I hope to get to this in the 2nd half of 2023. I haven’t been in the mood for fantasy on that level yet.
Most anticipated release for the 2nd half of the year

I’ve only read one book by this author before which was Mexican Gothic. I ddin’t really love that one, but I think Silver Nitrate could be really good.
Biggest Disappointment

Biggest Surprise

Favorite new author
I wouldn’t say I have one at this moment, but I would like to look into RF Kuang and Adiba Jaigirdar some more. They could be potential new favorites for sure.
New favorite character
Holly from Stephen King’s books. So far, I’ve only seen her from the Bill Hodges series, but she also has her own series.
A book that made you cry

I can’t really say much about it, as that would be spoilers, but this book hit me right in the gut.
A book that made you happy

This post is starting to just be a promotion of this book. Of course, I love drama in books and this one did have it. It had its moments but was overall a happy book. Not everything went right for Shireen, but she made her own happiness with what she got.
What book/s do you need to read by the end of the year?
I really hope to get to the Holly series by Stephen King for Holly to come out. That includes The Outsider and If It Bleeds along with End of Watch. I have yet to read End of Watch when I’m writing this, but that might not be the case when this goes up.
