2023 Reading Goals: Blogmas Day 4

Hello readers! I know it is early in the month, but I am ready to talk about my reading goals for next year. I LOVE making reading goals and just goals in general. My reading in 2022 wasn’t the best, but I’m excited about the future.

Goal 1: Goodreads Goal

I don’t want to aim too high for this one knowing how my reading went in 2022, but I think I’m going to try for 150. I understand 150 is high, but I think I can do it, assuming my reading is like it was in 2021 and not 2022.

When I make this type of goal, I don’t stress about it. If I get halfway through the year and I’ve read 20 books, I’ll lower the goal to something more obtainable. I just like hitting the goal and I love that I can change it as many times as I want.

Goal 2: Favorite Authors

This is a goal I have considered adding every year and never do. I want to challenge myself to read a book by one of my favorite authors every month. I have 6 all-time favorite authors; Stephen King, P.C. Cast, Sophie Kinsella, Alex Gino, Elizabeth Acevedo, and Brandon Sanderson. Gino and Acevedo have no books I haven’t read, so I have to rely on the other 4. However, I think my reading could be much better if I read my favorite authors even more.

I’m always so busy trying new authors that I neglect my faves! It’s all about the authors who always bring me joy and rarely bring me books I don’t love.

Goal 3: TBR veterans

I made a goal similar to this a few years ago, but this one will be a bit different. I want to read all the books I’ve had on my TBR from 2020 or earlier. When I did this previously, I vowed to unhaul the books I didn’t read, but I don’t want to do that this time.

I don’t exactly mind having a large TBR at home, but I don’t like the same books sitting on my shelves unread for years and years. I have an update to my physical TBR coming very soon, BUT I’m going to show you what books are on my list. In my seasonal post where I show you my entire physical TBR, I don’t say how long I’ve had each book.

There are 20 books on this list. Will I get to every single one? Probably not. However, I hope I can make a good sized dent in the list!

Goal 4: Finish Series I’m Starting Within a Year

This year I noticed a new trend in my reading. I am starting and finishing more series within one year. I really enjoy that and I want to do it more. It is so much more immersive to read series close together.

I stopped reading series close together like that on purpose. It was because I had a hard time remembering the books apart. In my mind, I see it as one big story, which made it hard for reviewing or talking about with other people. However, I hope to go back to the way I used to read books and just binge entire series again.

Goal 5: Buzzwordathon

I really want to complete Buzzwordathon in 2023! I almost did it in 2021 but didn’t even get close this year. As of today, the prompts are not yet out. However, I am excited to find books for them when they do come out.

  1. I wish you luck on your goals. I think one of my goals is to keep reading in the Cosmere. It has really brought me a lot of joy this year. Plus, it’s helped me out of a pretty nasty reading slump.

    1. I need to continue, too! I bought Mistborn era two earlier this year, but never started it. I’ve also owned Words of Radiance for around 2 years and never got to it either…..
