Hello readers! It is almost Middle Grade March and I thought it would be a great idea to do the MGM book tag. I wanted to do some form a recommendations post for MGM, and this is an amazing way. Please comment don below and let me know what your favorite middle grade book is cos I would LOVE to read them!

What is the last middle grade book you read?
Amal Unbound is about a girl named Amal, who lives in Pakistan. All she wants to do is go to school, but her education is interrupted to tend to her house and new baby sibling while her mother is going through a sort of post-partum depression. Later on, Amal has to disrupt her learning even further when she has to help pay off her family’s debt by being a servant for a rich family. This was such a good book! I think it covered this topic of slavery in a way children could understand without being too graphic.

What is a MG book someone read to you as a child?
I’m sure this is one that NO ONE has heard of. My mom bought me the first few books in the Bobbsey Twins series when I was 7 or 8. The first one came out in 1904, and I have never heard anyone mention them before or since. I know it is a mystery series following two sets of fraternal twins, but I don’t remember much else about them, except that I loved them!
What was your favorite MG book as a child?
This is a hard one to say. Honestly, I did like reading until the age of 12, and when I started reading, I read mostly adult books. However, I was made to read this book by my school, and I ended up liking it, a lot. This book sparked my joy for reading! I then, went on to read Stephen King. I often times say that Stephen King started my love for reading, but this book came first.
What is your favorite MG book as an adult?
I have so many favorites! However, I do love to read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. It is honestly so hilarious. I never see any adults reading these, but they should. If you are looking for a recommendation for actual children, these are PERFECT. My daughter is finally getting into reading, and I know she will love them.
Who is your favorite MG author?
If you have been here for any amount of time, you would know I talk about Alex Gino ALL the time. I love their books! Alex Gino is a nonbinary middle grade author who writes amazing books. They are one my favorite authors, I just wish they had more books! Please pick up Gino’s books if you have not! I know all of their books are available on Scribd, if you have an account.
What MG book do you think should be required reading in school?
I actually thought this while I was reading it. I think this is the type of story any child should read in school. It follows an MC called King, whose brother recently died. Before his brother died, he told him to stop being friends with his best friend Sandy because he is gay. He is grieving his brother and his friendship with Sandy. To me, this book really points out how adults should be careful what they say around their children. King is told over and over by his dad in passing, black people cannot be gay. So, when King starts to wonder if he might be gay, he assumes his parents will not love him for it. They never directly say this to him, but he could only assume. If you have not read this yet, PLEASE DO!

What is your favorite MG book to movie adaptation?
I think my favorite adaptation would have to be the Netflix version of The Series of Unfortunate Events. I think they added so much to the story when they adapted it, and it was amazing!
I think the best adaption I have ever seen is the The Giver by Lois Lowry. Out of all the adaptations I have ever seen, that is the best one. I don’t think they cut much out or took any liberties in the story. It was perfect!
