Hello readers! Today’s post was going to be a Down the TBR Hole, but instead, I decided to do a book haul post. I went to the library book sale yesterday, so I bought a few books.
If you don’t, I highly recommend going to your library’s book sales! They are a great way to financially support your library and get some new books very cheaply. I only spent 5 dollars on myself!
I’m also going to also tell you in this post what I checked out from the library. Let me know if you’d be interested in library book hauls each month, where I tell you what I checked out! It might keep me a bit more accountable with reading them. I actually read every book I checked out last time, which I don’t know if I’ve ever done in my life.

The first book I grabbed was Crook Manifesto. I did NOT realize this was a sequel to Harlem Shuffle. However, this is a series of stand-alones. I just wanted to try Colson Whitehead because I’ve heard good things.
Harlem Shuffle takes place in the 60s, while Crook Manifesto is set in the 70s. They are crime mysteries following different characters in Harlem. Book three, Cool Machine, will be published in the summer. So, this is the perfect time for me to pick them up.

Before the Ever After is a middle-grade book I read a few years ago. It follows a young boy whose dad is a football player with CTE. If you are familiar at all with any kind of sports, CTE is a disorder that comes from repeated head trauma and is most common in football players. It mimics dementia and is fatal.
This was such a heartbreaking book. It’s from a kid’s perspective, so he doesn’t understand what is going on. He doesn’t understand why his dad doesn’t recognize him sometimes.
Woodson is a great author. I’ve read a few of her books, and they are always great.

Moongarden is a middle-grade book I remember hearing about last year during Middle-Grade March. I believe this was the group book, but I didn’t really read anything in that month.
Moongarden is a dystopian retelling of Secret Garden, where a girl named Myra stumbles on a secret garden after most plants are dead and climate change has taken over the planet.
This Middle-Grade March, I hope to get to this one and Secret Garden, which I have not read before.

The Amulet series follows two young siblings named Emily and Navin when they move to a home their mother has recently inherited. In the middle of the night, they hear a strange noise in the basement, and their mother gets taken through a door to another world by a monster. They both follow her and seek out to rescue her.
I finally got around to reading book one this week, and I saw they were selling book 6 in the series, so I picked it up. I’d like to slowly acquire the books.
Library Haul

I went ahead and borrowed books 2 and 3 for Amulet. The last book has it’s own storyline, but there is also a cliffhanger, so I was excited to read on.
Now that I am going to the library again, I will be checking out a lot of graphic novels again. I love reading them, but I just don’t prefer to read them as an ebook or anything.

Last time I also checked out the first book in this Animal Crossing manga. I thought it looked cute, so I decided to try it. I think the book was cute and sort of funny, but it also seems confused. It has a lot of jokes you’d only get if you play the game, but half of the book is also a guide for new players.
I decided to go ahead and try book two. If I don’t love this one, I won’t read any further in the series.
In Animal Crossing New Horizons, you play a character who moves to a deserted island. You build your own house, island, invite villagers to live there, and collect different items.
In this book series, it follows 4 different characters moving to the island. If you are familiar with manga at all, the humor is chibi humor, which can be very silly.
It was fun seeing villagers in the story, especially ones that have been on my island before. The first two villagers I had on my island were Dom and Diva, who were both in book one.
Happy blogging and bookish adventures! 📚🦒✨
