Read it or Unhaul It Challenge for 2026: Blogmas Day 11

Hello readers! Today I have a post I’ve considered making for more than a year now. I want to name some books that I need to either read in 2026 or unhaul them. Most of these will be books I’ve just owned WAY too long.

I think we all have TBR vets on our shelves, and also books that we never know if we’ll get to. If I don’t get to these 10 books in the next year, I don’t know if I ever will.

I heard of Michigan vs the Boys from Books and Lala on Booktube. I remember being interested in the story, but I don’t even remember what it is about anymore.

I randomly found it at the bookstore for a few dollars and picked up my own copy. However, I have yet to read it after buying it quite a few years ago now.

I still want to give it a shot because it might be excellent. Let me know if you guys have read it! It has pretty good ratings on Goodreads, so I probably should read it sometime soon.

Crooked Sixpence is a middle-grade portal fantasy series. I bought book one for 4 dollars from the bookstore. I have a really hard time passing up a price like that.

I really want to try more fantasy series that are middle grade in 2026, and this one should be on the list. I know it’s about a secret underground London where there are magical objects.

It’s pretty short and I know I can get to it in 2026 if I really put my mind to it.

Book Scavenger is another middle grade series that I own the first book in. I know that it follows a girl who is searching for books all over the country and there are clues on this website.

I know the Book Scavenger site really exists and you can also search for books hidden around the world by other people. It really gives me similar vibes to the Mr. Lemoncello series and I know I’ll love it when I get around to reading it.

It’s sat on my shelf for TOO LONG. A few of these I am just putting on here to pressure myself into read and this is one.

Clockwork Angel is one that I’ve owned and unhauled before. This was many years ago now. I also own it on Audio. I’ve had this copy longer than I’ve had this blog, so at least before 2020. If I was going to read it I probably would’ve by now.

I am still interested in the series, but it’s nowhere near the top of my TBR. I didn’t really like the Mortal Instruments at all, so I probably won’t like this either. So, why not unhaul it if I don’t read it in 2026?

Cake Eater is a dystopian book inspired by Marie Anoinette where she is an influencer in the future. It takes place in 3070 where she is a fashion influencer promised to be married to the prince.

The ratings for this book are not the best. I thought it sounded interesting, but I never think about picking it up. I think I’ve owned this since probably 2023, and I’ve never had the urge to pick it up. That just makes me think I never will.

Love and Other Conspiracies is a romance book I won from Goodreads last year. I am interested in getting to this one and this is my opportunity to pressure myself to get to it.

I know it follows two people who fall for one another while searching for different conspiracies they are interested in, like Mothman and Bigfoot.

I am in the mood for romance, so hopefully I will pick up some of the ones I own in January. I almost added one or two more from this genre, but this one will do for now. Should I do this Read it or Unhaul It every year?

The Fury was sent to me by Celadon. It was an ARC, but it arrived about a month after it came out. I did start this book last year when I got it, but didn’t get far in.

The Fury is one of those books where a few people are trapped on an island and a murder occurs. I think from the description we are trying to figure out who is murdered? I’m not certain.

I’ve read both The Silent Patient, which I loved, and The Maidens, which I did not like at all. This book has really bad ratings, which makes me not too excited for it. However, I would like to at least try the book for myself and see what I think.

There’s Someone Inside Your House is a book I keep forgetting I own. It’s a YA thriller. I knew it had bad ratings before I ever got a copy of it. However, I was still interested in trying it.

Now that I’ve owned it for a few years, I know that I don’t have the best relationship with YA thrillers. They are so hit or miss for me, and most are misses. I think for every one I love, I dislike 3 or 4 others.

Let me know if you’ve tried this book and if I should get to it in 2026! I feel like I should at least try it, but again, I do forget I own it most of the time.

Priory of the Orange Tree is on here so I can pressure myself into reading it. I’m pretty sure I’ve had it since 2020. Back then, it was a standalone fantasy.

I don’t know much about the book itself. I just know it’s a women centered fantasy with a Queendom. I was really excited for that. Most fantasy is so male-centered.

I DO want to read this, and this is me peer-pressuring myself to get to it. I have to read this in 2026! No excuses.

Filth is a movie that I saw a few years back that I really enjoyed. I bought the book and have tried to read it once or twice. I do still want to read it, but I find the transliteration really hard to get through.

This next year, I’d like to try out the audiobook and see if that helps. I’m not sure if it will or won’t. Honestly, I struggle to understand Scottish accents so much. Usually, if they aren’t talking too quickly I can understand it.

The other issue was all of the slang used in the book. I had to stop reading each time and look up what words meant. A good example is ‘jakey,’ which is some sort of derogatory term for a drunk homeless person.

Happy blogging and bookish adventures! 📚🦒✨
