Hello readers! Have you ever considered doing Blogmas, but you don’t know where to start? I have done it quite a few years in a row now, and so I thought it’d be a good idea to give some tips.
I was searching online and found a ton of posts of ideas of what to post, but this one is more about how to manage to post every day for a month.
My first year of Blogmas was not a success. I posted every day for 13 days, but then my computer broke and I wasn’t able to get it fixed until the next month. I tried again two years later and I’ve been doing it ever since.
Post Frequency
Firstly, start off deciding how often you want to post. The first time I succeeded, I posted every other day for the month. After that, I’ve done every day of December except Christmas, which is probably what I will do this year as well.
Planning Posts
I would recommend either writing on paper, a calender, or getting up an Excel/Sheet to plan your posts on. This will put everything in one place in a visual way. In previous years, I had a bullet journal to plan in, but I filled it up, and now I plan everything on an Excel sheet.
Then, pick what you want to post when. I post tags on Thursdays, so during Blogmas, I’ll post a tag every Thursday. In your beginning stage, you don’t even need to pick the tags you want to post. Just, putting book tag in that place is good enough for now.
I will try to leave room for things like Let’s Talk Bookish. Of course, we don’t know those very far in advance, but they can be kept in the back of your mind. It’s okay to leave yourself a few to write in the same week you’ll post, but keep in mind how busy you might be.
Tag posts, wrap ups, TBRs, and other weekly memes are an easy way to fill the schedule. Another idea would be favorite/least favorite lists, book stats, goals, and posts about series you’ve started or finished. I also love to post TBRs for the next year of series and other books.
I would also recommend going outside of the reading realm for posts if needed. I have made posts about my favorite songs and even favorite Christmas movies in the past. If you have another hobby outside of books, you can always incorporate it during Blogmas!
When to Start
I would recommend starting as soon as possible. I have started posts MONTHS in advance. For example, I make a post where I talk about all the series I’ve finished that year, so once every 3 or 4 months, I’ll fill in series I’ve finished. By December, the post is nearly finished.
I tend to write things like tags or weekly memes in October or November. Top Ten Tuesday and Book Blogger Hop are available quite a bit in advance, which helps.
I’ve even written entire posts, and then a few days before it goes up, I’ll write the intro so it’s more relevent to the day I’m posting.
The thing is, the more you do before December, the lighter the load will be in December. Most of use are very busy in December, so there isn’t always a ton of time left for blogging.
Don’t forget your thumbnails! I will usually choose one thumbnail to use the whole month or go back and forth between two. This makes it much easier for me because I can just change the text and save it in 30 seconds or less.
Let me know if you’ve done Blogmas before or if you’re planning to do it in 2025! It can be a lot at first, but if you pace it just right, it won’t add any stress to your life.
Happy blogging and bookish adventures! 📚🦒✨
