Hello readers! Let’s talk about what I read in July. I didn’t read a ton, but I did really enjoy what I read. I managed to get to four books this month and I’m pretty happy with all of them.

I was really surprised when reading through these last two books how much I enjoyed them.
These two had much more action than the previous three. I loved seeing some side character development, too.
And the ending of the whole thing had me in tears. I really didn’t remember how this series ended!
I hope everyone reads Percy Jackson whether they are kids or adults. I find so much value in middle grade as an adult. I love that Riordan took a disability such as dyslexia and made it a super power. Neurodivergent kids deserve to know they are seen and matter.

Red Pyramid is the first book in the Kane Chronicles. It follows Sadie (12) and Carter (14). Sadie lives with her maternal grandparents in England while Carter lives in America with their dad.
Their dad is taken by a mysterious figure and they go on a mission to rescue him.
I did enjoy this book. I think it’s a good upgrade from Percy Jackson as far as how the mythology is woven into the story along with the magic. There is magic in Percy Jackson, but nowhere near at this level.
I think this series is a good mix of middle grade and YA. We had the humor and setting that is more middle grade with a much more complicated magic system like YA.
Why did I give it a 3, even though I liked it? I just wish there was more character growth. I liked Sadie and Carter, but I thought we could get more about them, their grandparents, and even side characters. We did get quite a bit about the parents, which was a plus.

Vampires Don’t Wear Polka Dots is the first book in The Adventires of the Bailey School Kids series. I was thinking about 90’s book series that were popular when I was a kid and this one was at the top of my mind.
At this time in my life, I did not enjoy reading. So, I would pick up whatever books I could that were short. This was the one I remembered the most along with the Cupid one.
Basically, this series follows these third graders and their encounters with different monsters working at their school. It is a great one for fans on Goosebumps, which I eventually read in middle school.
I also borrowed some of Nate the Great and Junie B. Jones from Libby to read as well. Let me know what you guys read in the 90’s if you were there for that!

Happy blogging and bookish adventures! 📚🦒✨
