Back to School Book Tag

Back to School

Hello readers! Let’s do a book tag. I found this one recently when preparing for my daughter to go back to school.

I’m about to finish my first year at SNHU, but I have been to college before. Credit wise, I am now a junior in college! And, my daughter is going into the 7th grade this year.

I’m really excited to start this new school year. She is hoping to become a library helper, join student council, and do some sports.

Honestly, I really love the writing style of middle grade authors like Lemony Snicket or Chris Grabenstein. I love the play on words and the little quips woven into their writing.

It’s sort of whimsical, even if the books have no magic in them at all.

The one I read most recently was This Wicked Fate. It’s mostly because I really loved This Poison Heart. When I finished book one, I was so excited to get to book two.

This Wicked Fate just felt so rushed. I think it should’ve been longer or three books instead of being a duology.

There wasn’t any character development, just plans to do things and then doing them. I feel like we could’ve spent a lot more time on the characters and the world just like in book one.

This is a fiction book, but there is a lot of truth in it. It follows a young girl who finds the old letters of her grandmother’s and decides to read through them.

She finds out the most heartbreaking story of her grandmother’s life and her mom’s eventual adoption.

I just never learned about what happened in this book as a kid in school and it really upset me when I read it. I never knew that indigenous kids were being stolen from their parents and given to white people.

I learned a lot while reading this book and then even more when I researched about it after. This happened in the 60’s and 70’s, which is when my mom was born. I also thought about that a lot, too.

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries is set in the Edwardian period. I am not a big fan of historical books, but this one is also a fantasy.

This is a cozy fantasy following Emily Wilde, who is staying in this little village while writing her book.

I love that it also takes fae and shows them in an evil light and not just as a love interest. It was different than other books I’ve read that center fae and I really loved it.

I feel like I never talk about manga on here!

Bleach is my favorite manga/anime. It follows a teen boy named Ichigo who sometimes is a soul reaper. Unlike other soul reapers, he is fully alive.

There are these creatures named Hollows who eat souls and soul reapers like Ichigo take down the Hollows and help the souls pass on.

I highly recommend the anime, manga, and even the Netflix movie that came out a few years ago.

ANYTHING by Brandon Sanderson. I am actually shocked that nothing by Sanderson has been made into a movie or show.

I know he had a Mistborn movie in the works, but it fell through. I think he is the type of person who has a really specific vision and won’t allow anyone to deviate from it. Which he shouldn’t! I would rather have no adaptation than a bad one.

I literally have no idea! I can’t remember the last time read a book where someone mentioned listening to music, let alone what I listen to.

I really loved The Dos and Donuts of Live. It follows a young girl whose parents own a donut shop. She ends up entering an Irish version of the Junior Bake Off.

The kids on Junior Bake Off are so cute with their little british accents!

Anyhow, I loved the donuts in this book. There were so many different ones and they always had really creative names.

Do you guys like filled donuts? I actually really don’t. As I’ve gotten older, my favorite donut has become the plain glaze one.

Well, I think the perfect relaxing books are cozy mysteries. I really loved the Seaside Cafe Mystery series. It’s honestly my favorite cozy series! I read all 7 books in two weeks.

It follows a woman named Everly who moves back to her small town after a breakup and opens a sweet tea shop. She eventually starts baking things as well.

She is a curvy girl, there is a single dad who is the love interest, and lots of small town vibes.

This was recommended to ME specifically. But, I was watching the latest episode of Shelve It or Scrap It, which is a series by Becca and the Books on Youtube.

She had read this book and really enjoyed it, so I decided to give it a try. Especially because she and I both don’t really read YA books anymore. So, I decided to try it.

I ended up really loving it, which is awesome. But that sequel I mentioned earlier was just nowhere near as good as this one.
