The Sunday Post #62| Fighting a Reading Slump & Finding a New Favorite Show

The Sunday Post

Hello readers! It’s time for another Sunday Post. It’s been about a month since I gave you guys a regular life update. How have you guys been doing? I’m getting back to posting more and I also have been working on my site this past week.

I have not had a lot going on this past month or so. My courses are going really well at the moment. I have nearly 100 percent in both classes, which is insane for me.

I’ll most likely spend most of my day today doing school work.

My daughter had her 12th birthday party this last Sunday at a trampoline park. It went really well! We had cake and pizza, and all the kids had a ton of fun. Her birthday is in July, but I wanted to have it close to the end of the school year so the kids could come to it. And I think I’ll do that every year going forward.

She finished the school year on Monday and then went to spend a couple weeks with her paternal grandmother.

I’ve been sort of back into a reading slump, but I’m still trying my best. The problem is that I keep starting books thinking that is what I want to read and then it isn’t. BUT I did manage to finish a book last night, so that is a win.

Saturday – Book Blogger Hop Masterlist

This upcoming week, I have another Masterlist coming out. This is the last one that I’ve got planned and it centers Top Ten Tuesday. I am also planning the Meet the Book Blogger Tag, and I also have a retrospective post about books I’ve hauled in all the time I’ve been a book blogger.

Image of Eat the Ones You Love Sarah Maria Griffin

Eat the ones you love is inspired by Little Shop of Horrors. I finished this book last night and I really don’t know what to think of it.

There are some good parts, but also some lacking.

It follows a woman who goes to work at a plant shop in a run down mall. I didn’t expect most of the book to be in the plants perspective, which was really interesting.

This book is really unlike anything I’ve read before. I’ll be thinking about this book for a long time to come.

Let me know if you’ve read this one! I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on it.

Cover of Dreamcatcher by Stephen King

I am thinking my next read will be Dreamcatcher by Stephen King. This is an alien horror. I used to LOVE the movie when I was a kid and never got around to reading the actual book.

It’s similar to IT in the way that it starts out when they are kids and then many years later they gather together again.

I also have been thinking a lot lately about Stephen King books as a whole and wanting to read them more. Despite SK being my favorite author, I don’t read him much anymore. I’ve only read about 40% of all his books, so I have no excuses.

I’ve watched A LOT of things this past month. I even found a new favorite show in May!

I started a new show called Weak Hero this last month and it easily became a new favorite. It follows a teen boy named Sieun (pronounced like She-oon) who faces a lot of bullying and learns how to fight by with his wits instead of brawn.

I think the best part of this show is Sieun himself and also the actor who plays him, Park Jihoon. He really brought this character alive. Sieun struggles a lot at school and at home, and finds a small friend group when he was alone before.

I don’t know if this is the intent or not, but I felt like there was a lot of romantic tension between Sieun and Suho. This is by far a romance series, but I couldn’t help but notice it.

Genuinley, all of the characters are so well done. Even the villains in the series had me empathizing with them.

There is also a lot of action in the series as well. A big focus of the series is fight scenes and other violence. I highly recommend this series if you are ever looking for something new to check out on Netflix.

I’ve also been rewatching Alice in Borderland. I watched this show for the first time back in 2023 after season 2 was released and season 3 is coming out in the fall, so I thought I’d go ahead and rewatch it.

Alice in Borderland follows Arisu, who is thrust into a new world where everyone has to play deadly games to continue living. Arisu is very smart, which helps him to survive, but he also struggles the inherent violence. I am just now realizing his character is very similar to Sieun’s.

I’m really enjoying watching it for the third time to prepare for the new season because I know it’s gonna be good.

I also watched a movie on MAX called Mickey 17. This was a book that I intended to read for a long time, but never got around to.

This takes place in the future where they have human printing machines. They use Mickey to test out anything that may be deadly, and if he dies, they just reprint him.

He is left for dead on a planet the group is attempting to colonize, and when he finally makes it back to the ship, they’ve already printed another Mickey, and he doesn’t know how to deal with this.

This movie was suprisingly very dark and not at the same time. We do witness him getting killed over and over, along with some other cruelty, but it’s also satirical at the same time, with a little bit of romance mixed in.

It was directed by Bong Joonho, who is the director of Snowpiercer and Parasite. Both Mickey 17 and Snowpiercer have similar themes, but this one has some light hearted moments.

I really enjoy all of Bong Joonho’s movies including the three listed and Okja as well. There is always plenty of social and political commentary mixed into his movies that I really appreciate.

The next show I’m going to watch is Squid Game season 2. Season 3 comes out later this month and I’m planning to rewatch season 2 in preparation. I am usually not the type of person who rewatches shows ever, but season 2 kind of ended in a cliffhanger and I think it’d be better to see it all at once.

My favorite group released a new album this week and I love it. My favorite song so far is Outside, but the title track is also good.

I don’t typically listen to Seventeen, but I really love their new song Thunder. I catch myself humming it all the time. It’s such a catchy song and a new favorite for sure.
