Middle Grade March TBR 2025

Hello readers! It’s time for my March TBR. And, my favorite readathon that happens every year. I’ll also be letting you guys know what I spun for my Wheel of TBR. Middle Grade March is a readathon centering reading middle grade books, which I LOVE. The hardest part for me is not adding every book I can think of to the TBR.

Middle Grade March is hosted by Booktubers Books and Jam, Life Between Worlds, and On the Middle Shelf. And it currently has it’s own YouTube channel and Instagram. I believe they do a book club that spans the whole year now, too.

Buzzword

The Buzzwordathon is a yearly reading challenge over on Booktube, hosted by Booktuber BooksandLala. Each month, there are two challenges, one is a word and the other is an image theme that we are supposed to find a book for.

In March, the word is Thing and the cover theme is books. So, I went with this one. On the bottom left corner, there is a kid holding a book, so I think it counts.

This is a prequel to the Mr. Lemoncello series where it follows Luigi Lemoncello as a little kid. I’ve owned this book for a long time now, so I am excited to get to it. AND it’s a middle grade, which is perfect for Middle Grade March.

POC Classic

For this one, I have two unread books I own that are classics by black authors. I am going to be kind to myself and go with the smaller one.

I have read a short story by Toni Morrison, being Recitatif, but I haven’t read any of her books. I know this one is about a woman who used to be a slave, and she also grieving the loss of her baby. It says that it’s magical realism on Goodreads as well.

Libby

For this one, I am going to add in the next Percy Jackson book, being book 4. I didn’t get around to it in February, so it’s now on the Wheel of TBR for March. I really am enjoying reading one book by Rick Riordan every month, so I knew I had to get this one on the TBR somewhere.

I’ve honestly been listening to all of them during my reread so far, so I’ll be getting this one on Libby as well.

Animal on the Cover

I also did not get around to Wundersmith in February, so we are adding it to the TBR for March. Honestly, I read a book I didn’t love in February and that put me in a little bit of a reading slump, so I didn’t prioritize anything that wasn’t on my Wheel of TBR.

Anyhow, in the green bubble, there is a dog, so I am adding this one for an animal on the cover. I am really happy that I managed to get so many middle grade books on this TBR because I am hoping to read every middle grade book I can.

YA

I was not happy when YA came up because I am really trying to read middle grade, but also because I am struggling to like YA anymore. However, I actually am grateful it did. I’ve owned Concrete Rose for a few years now and I’ve just never gotten around to reading it.

This book being on the TBR is really a big reason I am enjoying the Wheel of TBR so much. It’s forcing me to read books I have wanted to read for so long, but just haven’t. AND I managed to fill the TBR with all books I own again. Out of the 15 books from my wheel so far, only one has been a book I didn’t own. This game is really making reading fun in a different way.

Concrete Rose is the prequel to The Hate U Give. I believe it follows the MC from The Hate U Give’s father when he was a teenager. I also know the title is a reference to a poetry book that Tupac wrote, so I might try to get that this month, too.

TBR Jar Pull

I am actually shocked that I pulled a middle grade book out of the jar this month. Bitter is the prequel to Pet. This one follows the mother of Jam, the MC from Pet, going to a boarding school called Eucalyptus.

Middle Grade March

Read a book by an author with 3 names

The only unread middle grade book I own written by an author with 3 names. I’ve had this book for a long time, so it’d be great to get to it now that I’m trying to get my physical TBR down.

I know this one is about scavenger hunts all over the world where books are hidden. The MC has to find clues to discover the locations of the books.

Read a book with flowers on the cover

For this one, I am going to go with one of the group books, which is Moongarden. This book is a retelling of Secret Garden, the other group book.

I’m really excited for this one because I’ve never read a middle grade that is scifi before. I’m not sure what exactly it’s about outside being a retelling and scifi, but I’m optimistic with this one.

Read a book that is part of a series

For this one, I am adding in Wundersmith. I am really excited to read this one and hopefully I can get to it this month. And as a bonus, it was on the Wheel of TBR.

Read a book that involves travel

For this one, I am picking the next Percy Jackson book. In all of these books Percy is on a mission going somewhere, so I know it’ll be the case here. I think this is the book with King Midas in it, so I remember it a little bit.

Read a book written in the 1900s

For this one, I am going to go with the other group book, being The Secret Garden. I thought I had read this one before, but I haven’t. This one is about a girl who finds a secret garden in her back yard.

I’m excited to try this one and see how I like it, especially knowing I will be reading a retelling of it this month, too.

Other Books I’d Like to Get To

Buzzwordathon: Thing

The word for Buzzwordathon in March is Thing, so I am going to try to get to Drew Afualo’s book. It has the worth Nothing in the subtitle, so I believe that it counts. I can’t believe I’ve managed to do so well at Buzzwordathon in 2025. Usually by this time, I have given up.

I also have 3 graphic novels out from the library, so I am hoping to get to these in March as well.

I was recommended Amulet by someone when I told them I really enjoyed Nevermoor. I don’t really read fantasy middle grade books, so I wasn’t sure what else to try after.

I don’t know what this series is about, but the robot bunny on the cover is intriguing to me. Have you guys tried this series? I hope it’s good.

  1. Pet is one of my favorite books of all time, and while I liked it a bit more than Bitter, I still found Bitter fascinating! Hope you enjoy it 🙂
