My Favorite Books of All Time (part 1)

Hello readers! I thought I could go through and tell you guys about some of my favorite books I’ve ever read. I have a lot of them on my favorites shelf on Goodreads, so let’s go through them!

This will be part one of honestly, I don’t know how many. I was aiming for 5 or so, but we will see once we get there.

What is one of your favorite books?

The first book on this list is one I read as a teenager being It by Stephen King. If you’ve never heard of this one, It follows a group of friends in two different timelines, one when they are kids and one when they are adults.

They had to defeat this alien being that looks like a clown called Pennywise as kids and learn as adults that they need to regroup because he is back. This is honestly such a great book. Seeing it on this list is making me want to reread it even though it’s over 1k pages.

As you guys know, Stephen King is one of my favorite authors of all time. He has so many good books and this is one of his best.

The Outsiders is another book I read as a teen. I was obsessed with this movie as a teenager and decided to read the book. Honestly, it is one of the best adaptations I’ve read. They don’t change much of anything in the live action version.

Anyhow, it follows Ponyboy, who lives in this town where there are two types of people, Greasers, who are the poor people, and Socs (pronounced like soh-shs), who are the richer ones.

One day, the Socs corner Ponyboy and his friend Johnny, and they end up having to go on the run due to what happens in that part as a consequence of one of the Greaser boys going on a date with a girl who is a Soc. It’s so hard to describe this book without giving too much away.

I loved this story. It’s very much like Romeo and Juliet, or even West Side Story, but without a romance in it. This book is also one of those super emotional ones to read or watch, which are always my favorite.

The Giver is one I read in school and have read 3 or 4 times now. It’s such a great story. It was my, along with many others, first time reading any sort of dystopian. Or, is it a utopian?

It follows a boy named Jonas, who lives in this world where everyone is the same. They all dress the same, act the same, and even see in black and white. When the kids turn 12, they are given the job that they will do for the rest of their life, and Jonas is chosen to be a Giver. The Giver is like us. They can see in color and know the truths of the world outside of this society, which isn’t easy for him or anyone else to come to terms with.

It’s such a beautiful story. I know Jonas’s story is continued in book four of this series and I’d love to read it. I read book two in the series a few years ago and I really didn’t love it, but it also follows completely different characters.

This entire series is one of my favorites of all time. It’s a 12 book series following a boy named Darren Shan. Due to unforseen circumstances, he has to make a choice to save his friend’s life and become a vampire, or let his friend die and stay human.

This is a middle grade series, but I read it at around 17. Shan is alarmingly good at gore and I would not recommend his books to most kids in this age group. For instance, there is a scene in one of the books where a werewolf disembowels a child.

I just had 3 random books in the Bleach series on here. I haven’t read these in a long time, so I have no idea why I added these specific ones. BUT, Bleach is my favorite manga/anime I’ve ever read or watched. Tite Kubo has been my most read author for over 10 years now.

The Christmas List is a retelling, or at least I think it is, of A Christmas Carol. I actually read this in English my Sophomore year in high school.

It follows a man who has an epiphany after seeing his own obituary in the newspaper and goes around trying to fix all the bad he has done in his life to other people.

Oh, this is such an underrated one! Emily the Strange is the first book in the series. It follows Emily waking up on a bench somewhere with no memories and a journal to write in.

She has to solve the mystery of how she lost her memory and why she lost it as well. It was honestly a mystery I didn’t see coming, despite being a middle grade book. I feel like middle grade mystery books can sometimes be very obvious. But it wasn’t here.
