Hello readers! It’s time for a Book Blogger Hop post. Man, the last time I did one of these was in May of 2024. It’s been a long while. I don’t do these weekly memes much anymore in general, but I want to go back to doing them again.
If you’ve never heard of Book Blogger Hop, it is hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addict. Each week a discussion topic is given and many book bloggers post based on that topic. New topics start on Friday and end the following Thursday. I personally always post my answers on Sundays.
10th-16th – January is National Hobby Month. Do you have any pastimes or interests other than reading that go well with your love of books and literature?
I really love this topic. I am a big hobby person. I don’t necessarily have many that are Bookish, other than reading. HOWEVER, I would love to get into collecting books. I thought for a long time that I didn’t like owning pretty books, but I realized recently that I think I was being influenced into that thought process.
I am one of those people who have mismatched series, but there have been really beautiful sets I’ve wanted in the past, but I haven’t purchased them because of a certain person.
ANYHOW, let’s talk about some hobbies I do have! And maybe some I’d like to get into or back into. I am a hobbyist at heart. I have too many, to be honest, but I’m always open to more.
Book Community
My biggest hobby outside of reading is this one. I love the book community. I post mostly on here, but I also have Tiktok, YouTube, and IG. I love talking about books and seeing other people’s opinions on them, too.
I’ve also found a passion for helping indie authors in any way that I can. I only found that through Booktok because so many of them are over there.
True Crime
Another big hobby I’ve had since childhood is True Crime. I used to watch True Crime TV after school each day in middle and high school and I now listen to podcasts.
This is just a thing I’ve always been interested in. I’m not even sure why that is. My favorite podcasts are Morbid on Spotify and I like Mile Higher, Lights Out, True Crime With Kendall Rae, Sherrilyn Dale, and Behind You on Youtube, but I also think they’re on Spotify. These are just ones I’ve found over the years who I think truly care about victims.
Kpop
I’ve been into Kpop now for 6 years. I love it so much. I have always been a big music lover, but really fell out of my love of music in my early 20s. When I got into Kpop, it brought the love I had for music as a teen back.
I love the music, the content, dancing, and all the TV shows that come with it. There is so much to Kpop and I’ve always been a big lover of fandoms. And I’ve even started branching out to Tpop and Jpop in 2024. I mean, Jpop is extremely gate kept by Japan, and therefore hard to get into. But I am still trying anyhow.
My favorite kpop group is Enhypen, which you guys probably already know. But I listen to a little bit of everyone. I did my Favorite Songs of 2024 post to share more of my love of music with you guys for the first time.
Baking
You guys know, I tried quite a few new recipes close to the end of 2024. Baking is something I’ve always loved. I even love baking and cooking shows. When I was a little kid, the only baking related show was this giant cake competition called Food Network Challenge.
I am so happy how far baking and cooking competitions have come because I LOVE watching them. I love anything with Gordon Ramsay, the Spring/Summer/Kids/Holiday Baking Championships, the Great Food Truck Race, and the British Bake Off the most.
Knitting
Another hobby I’ve had on and off for many years is knitting. I actually knitted my daughter a sweater for Christmas this year. I am thinking of doing a genre blanket this year for the books I read, and I want to make some new ornaments.
My ex husband and I’s first Christmas together was not the best when it came to financials, so I knitted a bunch of ornaments so we would have some on the tree. In 2025, I’d like to remake them because I was really new to knitting and they aren’t made very well.
I even made my step-daughter some gloves that year because we couldn’t buy her some. They worked great!
The blanket for genres was one I have wanted to do for years now and haven’t been able to, so 2025 is my year to really give it a shot.
Mini Brands
I LOVE Mini Brands. I don’t have a ton of them, but they are so fun to collect. My problem is that new ones come out so quickly! I actually got some Bookish ones for Christmas this year, which was so cute.
This is a hobby I picked up only 3 or so years ago now. This may seem like an immature hobby, but it’s actually just as common for adults to collect them.
Diamond Paintings
One hobby I FINALLY picked up in 2024 is diamond paintings. I did three of them in 2024. I finished the third one a few hours before midnight on New Year’s Eve. Just in time to start a new one in the new year.
I love doing them while I listen to music or audiobooks. I don’t really know what to do with them once they are finished, but I’m excited to figure it out. I’d like to display a few on my walls in the future.
Video Games
One hobby I’ve had as long as I can remember is gaming. I am not a HUGE gamer or anything, but I do have a few I love. I only currently have a Switch, so the video games I own are Bratz, Skyrim, and Animal Crossing. I probably play Skyrim the most. But I literally bought the switch so I could play Animal Crossing.
Other games I love include Dishonored and the Kingdom Hearts series. I want to get myself a new Xbox in 2025. My ex husband and his brother sold mine last year and didn’t even give me a dollar of it. I mean, it was for all of us, but I am the one who paid for it.
I am going to get a new one this year and it will be for just myself this time.
Anime
One I fell out of in the past 5 or so years is anime. I want to get back into anime this year! I am hoping to finish Naruto Shippuden and start Boruto, but I have no idea what else to watch.
Honestly, I started watching Naruto at 12 years old and my favorite of all time is Bleach. I might go back and watch Bleach again, but who knows? I never watched Sailor Moon as a kid and would like to finish that. I started it in early 2024 and then I didn’t have Hulu for the entire year.
Nails
One hobby I have been considering getting into is nails. I would LOVE to be able to do my nails. I started getting my nails done every month in 2023 to help with my onychophagia, and it was working really well.
Then my husband decided I was using him for money and stopped letting me do them. You guys, I was getting 40 dollar, basic nails. I wasn’t even getting anything that nice.
BUT I managed to overcome onychophagia anyway all on my own in 2024. This is one of my biggest accomplishments of 2024. It’s something I’ve struggled with my entire life.
In March of 2024, I started buying the press on nails and I still wear them to this day, but I’d LOVE to be able to do acrylics at home. I heard it’s hard to learn to do, but I’d be willing to try. I love to learn new things and wouldn’t mind learning how to do something that could save me hundreds of dollars in the long run.
