Anyways, it’s time for a Down the TBR Hole. I think I’m going to up the ante in 2025 and make these posts a bit longer than before. I did get some feedback in December that some people do prefer when I go over each and every book and why I will keep it or not, so I am going to keep that format. I like both formats to be honest.
Essentially, you go through 5 to 10 books per post (I usually do 8) on your Want to Read shelf on Goodreads and purge all the ones you know you won’t be getting to anytime soon. If you want to see a more detailed version of how this works, check out Jody’s post. She is doing her Down the TBR Hole posts on Thursdays if you want to check those out!
This one is also going to be a bit different. Usually at the end or beginning of the year, I go back over the ones I did in the last year and remove some books that I was on the fence about, so let’s do that today! We have 12 posts to go over today, so let’s remove some books.
Last time we ended on 240 books on my Want to Read shelf and we are starting with 263. We have climbed quite a bit, but I also wrote all my December Down the TBR Hole posts in November, so it’s been a WHILE since I’ve looked at the list.
Down the TBR Hole (2024 Edition)
Going back and seeing this post has made me realize that I now have 100 more books on my Want to Read shelf than when I started. How did this happen?!
I even said in that post that I’ll remove Court of Miracles if I don’t read it by the time I did the post I’m doing right now. So, I have to stick to my word on that one.
Cemetary Boys. I finally tried this book out and decided I just am not interested in it. I’m going to remove it from my Want to Read shelf and my physical bookshelf in my house.
Rebel Rose is the only one I was considering removing and I’m going to pull the plug. Honestly, I never think about this book. I honestly forget it exists most of the time, so I know for sure that I’ll probably never actually get to the book.
I had one in this post that I said I was 50/50 on being Black Water Sister. I was actually thinking of reading Black Water Sister next month, so she it is staying for now. Let’s hope I get to it!
I didn’t mention removing this one, but I really want to this time. I said it in that post. I don’t have audible. I haven’t had a subscription since like 2014 or something, so I’ll probably never get to this. I like Molly and all, but I just don’t see myself actually ever listening to this one.
Here are two that have been on the TBR since 2021 that I never think about and both are YA. I am just not as into YA these days and I don’t feel a pull to read it much anymore.
I’m going to go ahead and remove these and if it’s meant to be, they’ll come back onto my radar in the future.
We are skipping #6 as there wasn’t anything to remove and going for this one next.
I kept this one last time because I’ve liked a book by Alice Oseman in the past, but I just don’t actually see myself getting to it any time soon.
I have a habit of keeping books on my list because they are diverse in some way. It makes me feel guilty for removing it, but there are so many other diverse books out there I could read instead.
Other Removals
In this section, I am going to remove some books that are duplicates on my Want to Read shelf. I think most of these came from entering giveaways.
You guys, I literally had On Earth as it is on Television on my shelf THREE times. I guess I’ve entered giveaways for that one quite a few times.
I just read The Luis Ortega Survival Club, but I found that it was also on my Want to Read shelf in a different edition.
For Way of Kings, I read this a few years ago and it is on my read shelf, but I had a second edition on my Want to Read shelf. It can’t be because I entered a giveaway for it because own a copy of it.
Okay, that is all of them. That was an easy way to remove 7 more books!
That was the end of books I’m removing for now. I mean, it wasn’t much progress, but we removed 7 books and then 7 more from duplicates. I am going to go forward with going through more books in each post. I usually do 8 or so in each post, but I need to do more than that or the Want to Read shelf is only going to be bigger and bigger each year.
I think the reason it grew so much is because I started entering a ton of giveaways on Goodreads and it automatically adds a book that you enter a giveaway for onto your TBR, even if it’s already on there. As we saw from all the duplicates I removed.
We got the Want to Read shelf down to 249! And I’d say that is a win.
