2024 Reading Stats

Hello readers! It’s time to talk about stats. Do you guys love stats? I personally do. I love to keep track and see the changes over time. Once I learned how to put formulas into Google Sheets back in 2019, I have been obsessed with tracking everything I can.

I read 8,753 pages across 33 books with and average rating of 3.6 stars. When it came to quality and quantity, it wasn’t the best year for me. But it’s a brand new year and I’m ready to have a good one! Seriously, I am writing 2024 off and moving onto 2025 with only optimism.

My formats have been pretty diverse these past two years. I got back into reading ebooks again in 2023 when I joined Booktok.

I’ve had a Kindle for over 10 years now, but I wasn’t using it as often the older I got. I really think it was KU and reading ARCs more that has put them back on the map for me.

I had Kindle Unlimited for half of 2023 and 2 or 3 months of 2024. However, I’d like to read more print books this upcoming year. I miss flipping the pages in a book.

I’m actually shocked how much adult I read in 2024. That is probably what my issue is! I usually read a lot more middle grade.

Middle grade is where I read the most diversely. It’s so hard to come across books in the category, especially since they removed the Goodreads Choice Awards category.

I’m having a hard time even enjoying the YA that I’m reading anymore. I don’t even know what it is. It can’t be that I outgrew the age group because I read middle grade all the time.

For age category, I am surprised I didn’t even read one single non binary author. My first read of 2025 is one, but still.

This is not one that I usually try to sway one way or another, but I honestly want to in 2025 when it comes to NB authors.

This one is where I acquired the books from. I only had Kindle Unlimited for two or so months, so I didn’t realize I used it so much.

Does anyone else feel really pressured to use it a lot when you have it because you don’t want it to be a waste of money? I am eventually going to get it back, but I don’t know when that will be just yet.

Did you guys know Spotify has audiobooks now? You only get 15 hours a month to listen on there, but it’s been nice having it so far. I’ve already used my 15 hours up for January, though. And yes, I still had some of the audiobook left in the book I was listening to. I wish I could’ve at least finished it!

These are books by month and pages by month. These charts have never been so empty! This chart just describes my year in a way. BUT I am not letting it get me down. 2025 is going to go so much better!

I read a majority short books in 2024. My average page count was 264. This is one thing I really want to change in 2025. My average page count has just gotten lower and lower over the years. I fear I am picking up books for the length and because I think I’ll love it. So, that is where the inspiration came from to make a goal to read bigger books again.

My average rating was 3.6 in 2024. I find this so sad! Nearly 40% of the books I read were 2 or 3 stars. Should I be DNFing more? I don’t feel like I am anti-DNF or anything, but it really bothers me when I have a lot of 3 star reads by the end of the year.

3 isn’t a bad rating for me, but it isn’t really good either. I don’t want to spend my time reading books that are just okay.

I only managed to finish one series in 2024. I was hoping to finish another one, but I didn’t get around to it.

The good news is that I severely lowered the number of series I started. In 2023 I started nearly 30 series! That was way too much. 9 is really good for me.

For pub date, I managed to read quite a few 2024 new releases at the end of the year, which was ideal.

My percentages has been much higher in the past and I’d like it to go up in 2025.

I was all over the place with genres as always. I literally only read scifi romance in January of 2024 and it was still 20% of my reading.

2nd most is scifi and then cozy mystery. I would like to read more of those genres again in 2025. Scifi has become on of my favorite genres over the last few years.

I don’t usually share this one but I want to this year because I did mention it in my goals for 2025.

Early in December, I said 26% of the books I read in 2024 were diverse in some aspect and I did improve it a little, but 2025 has to be much better.

I got it up to 30%, but I still don’t think that is great. It could be much better and I will actively be working toward increasing this in 2025.

Here are my percentages in 2023 for comparison. I want to see 2025 looking more like this than the previous one.

I have worked so hard over the years to diversify my reading and I can’t allow myself to slip back.
