Favorite Songs of 2024

Hello readers! Today’s post is going to be very different than usual. It isn’t even the one I said would come out today in my Sunday Post yesterday, but I thought it would be fun to tell you guys about some music I’ve loved in 2024.

As you guys know, I love reading. It’s my main hobby, BUT I have other hobbies, too. My 2nd favorite is Kpop. I’ve been into Kpop since 2019 and this year I had so many songs I loved. These will be in no particular order.

Actually, not all of these are Kpop. Some are Jpop and even Tpop. Do you guys listen to Kpop? Or Jpop/Tpop/etc.? I love listening to music from other countries and learning about their cultures through the music and artists who create them.

ENHYPEN

Enhypen has slowly become my new favorite group in 2024. I’ve mentioned this before in another post, but they have a vampire concept.

Their album Romance Untold has NO SKIPS. It’s really amazing and I had a hard time picking which ones to add here because I genuinely like them all.

If you like either of these songs, please go check out their whole album! Also, whispering in songs is so satisfying to listen to OMG.

Fatal Trouble was on a different album, so I had to add this one, too. Genuinely so many good songs out of Enhypen in 2024.

TXT – Over the Moon

I got into Kpop right around the time TXT debuted and I’ve loved seeing their changes over the years. This song is so beautiful. It’s made its way to my playlist and my favorite songs of the year.

Baekhyun – Pineapple Slice

Baekhyun has finally put out music this year since being back from the military and I loved it. His voice is so beautiful that I could literally listen to this man sing his grocery list.

It was also fun seeing him join TikTok for the first time and do some dance challenges with this song. Baekhyun NEVER misses.

ZeroBaseOne – Good So Bad

ZeroBaseOne is such an amazing group. I went back and watched their survival show. Man was that painful. I like watching survival shows, but they are so hard to watch and heartbreaking.

They also have such unique music in the Kpop space and I’ve loved getting into it in 2024.

Xikers – Witch

I loved seeing Xikers lean into this horror concept with Witch. I hope they do even more going forward. This group is so underrated and is full of talent. I was surprised they didn’t get any nominations on award shows for the choreography.

TWS – Last Festival

I don’t know what it is about Hybe groups, but they always get me. I didn’t think this group would ever be for me and then they release Last Festival. I love this song. It reminds me of &Team, which is another Hybe group that I LOVE so much.

I know this is the end of a chapter in their storyline, but I don’t follow them, so I am not sure all the details of their concept. I just know it’s about friendship in some way.

IVE – Accendio

Honestly, I mostly listen to boy groups, but I did love a few girl group songs this year, too. Accendio and HEYA were both amazing, but this one was my favorite of the two.

This video is also so Sailor Moon coded and I loved that sm.

Babymonster – Forever

This group has been controversial from day one. Everyone seems to love or hate them. I like some of their music and Forever was one of them. To be honest, I think I like it because it sounds like an IVE song.

BIBI – Sugar Rush

Bibi’s Bam Yang Gang was so popular in 2024, but no one is talking about Sugar Rush. This is PEAK feminine rage music and I loved it. That popsicle line was crazy, especially in a kpop song.

(G)I-DLE – Wife

(G)I-DLE’s Wife was heavily criticized this year for being nonsensical, but again, feminine rage music. This song seems like it has no meaning, but it’s about not wanting to just be someone’s wife. About women being expected to be silent and only aspire to be wives and mothers.

This is one of those songs that people don’t like because they either hate feminism or just don’t get it.

Xdinary Heroes – Instead

One thing I did not expect to find in kpop in 2024 was a metal song. I love metal music, but most of what I listen to came out 10+ years ago now. Xdinary Heroes are a k band, but haven’t put a metal song out until now.

&TEAM

&Team are a Jpop group whose music in 2024 was themed around the seasons. Samidare in Japanese roughly means early spring rain. They also have a werewolf concept and are connected to Enhypen’s vampire concept.

In this era, their pack leader has died and they are struggling to stay together, aka overcoming that early spring rain. They literally have a found family storyline. I love it so much.

With their summer release of Aoarashi came a b side called Koegawari, which means voice change. This song is about youth and growing up. I am far from finding this song relatable, but I still love it. It helps that the age range of this group is so vast. They are 18-27 years old.

Deer Hunter doesn’t have a music video or anything, but this song was amazing. I also watched a performance of the choreo and it was also one of the best parts. This song came out recently with their winter theme and it is really the one that screams werewolf. Most of the time, that wolf concept is pretty subtle.

Mashiho – Just the 2 of Us

Mashiho used to be part of a kpop group named Treasure. He left in 2023 after getting some sort of injury and we never thought we’d see him again. But he is back in Japan now and came out with 3 songs this year.

I am so happy to see him doing much better and dancing again! Especially because I literally never thought we’d hear from him again.

BUS – Liar

I’ve tried to get into tpop a little in 2024 and I’m really loving it. I love the way Thai sounds. Usually I do not like giant groups like Bus, but I can’t help but love LIAR.

Diamond – Teedee Tada

Thailand has become one of the first countries in Asia to legalize gay marriage. It becomes legal in January 2025! And I feel like you can see it clearly in Tpop. It’s like kpop, but there are plenty of LGBT people.

Lego and Diamond’s chemistry in this video goes unmatched. Hopefully we can see this energy in more Asian countries in the future.

VIIS – Chop Chop

Chop Chop has such Kill Bill vibes. I loved seeing this sort of concept with a girl group and the dance at the end with the swords was my favorite.

  1. I’m so out the loop with music that I’ve never even heard of any of the groups never mind the songs!
