How I Did on My 2024 Reading Goals

Hello readers! We have less than two weeks left in 2024 and that means it’s time to wrap up my goals for 2024. Without even looking at them, I know I didn’t do as good as I wanted to, but I know I’ll do better in 2025.

Goal one was to read 200 books. I wanted to be able to hit 200 books in 2024 because I have always gotten super close, but never made it. Did I in 2024? Not even close 😂

You guys know I had a reading slump that lasted around 8 or 9 months this year. I dropped my reading goal on Goodreads to 30 and I have currently read exactly 30. So, I might make it to 35 this year? We will have to see.

Goal 2 was to read a lot more books with physical disability rep. I didn’t read diversely in any capacity in 2024. Honestly, I read two books with disability rep and both were physical ones, so that is good! BUT, I was hoping for a lot better than that. Only 30% of the books I’ve read in 2024 have been diverse, so I didn’t do well in this one. But I know I can do better in 2025!

This one was to read through as many Brandon Sanderson books as I could. I wanted to specifically catch up on the Cosmere in 2024. I read one book by him being The Bands of Mourning. So, this one is another I’ll have to work on in 2025.

Oh my gosh, this one was to finish 24 series. Was that ambitious or what? I have finished one so far in 2024 and I think I can finish one more, but I actually don’t know if I will get to it.

24 was a crazy number! I can’t imagine I would’ve done that even if I read all 200 books I wanted to get to.

This one was to review more of the books I read that are indie books. I do try to do this as much as I can. Especially on Goodreads. Around 40% of the books I read this year were indie books and I know I reviewed quite a few of them.

I am actually going to try to do this more in 2025 as well. Especially now that TikTok may be being banned soon. I am so worried for all the indie authors who only have careers because of TikTok. I want to help as many of them as I possibly can.

For this last one, I wanted to read 50 ARCs. I did read some, but obviously not that many as I didn’t even read 50 books. I read 3 ARCs in 2024 and I’m still working on going back and reading ones I received in 2024 at some point.

In 2023, I was reading ARCs all the time, so I thought I’d do the same in 2024. But I stopped requesting them when I stopped reading. I have a few I still need to get to. My percentage on Netgalley is so bad!

I have some ARCs that are indie and some on Netgalley. My ratio is currently 65%! I hope I can read one more this year, which is the last Mr. Lemoncello book. That would also help me finish another series.

Well, I didn’t do well in 2024, but I am not upset about it at all. I am excited to see what I can do going forward in my reading. At the end of the day, goals are just for fun! And I am excited to hit some in the future. My goals in 2025 are actually not as crazy and specific this next year, so they’ll be easier to hit.

How did you guys do on your goals this year?

  1. Goals are definitely just for fun and 50 books is still a good amount if you’ve been struggling to motivate yourself to read. Good luck with next year’s goals

  2. Goals are just something to aim for and if you don’t get there, well it doesn’t matter. As long as you enjoy what you do read, that’s all that’s important!

  3. You still did great for being in a reading slump for more than half the year! That said, I know it can be disappointing when you don’t hit the goals you set out for yourself even when unexpected things happen to throw you off your flow. I’m much the same. 🤭 I hope 2025 will see you hitting your stride and have an amazing reading year!
