Hello readers! It’s time for my weekly update. This week I’m feeling hopeful, yet also bored. I am so tired of being overwhelmed and unemployed, but I’m still so excited for the rest of 2024.
What is the best book you’ve read this year? I really hope to be making a Book Communities Best of 2024 (So Far) post this year. I think I know of one or two books that might be in that post, but I’ve also been severely out of the loop.
The Sunday Post was created by The Caffeinated Reader. In The Sunday Post, you share news each week with your audience. This can be personal, book news, blog news, or anything else you want. Click the creator’s name for more details!
A New ARC:

I got a new ARC in the mail yesterday, just in time for my ARC post to have already went up. This book actually came out about a week ago, so I got it a little late.
Blurb: For thirty-three years, mortals have been on their own, abandoned by the guardian soulmates sworn to protect them. But when a village girl gains the powers of a star, a celestial invasion disrupts the delicate balance of the realms.
Jemma is the village outcast with a fainting illness. She doesn’t know how to fight and finds the idea of protecting the very people who don’t accept her from a sky demon assault to be… unpleasant. And Malokai, her soulbound guardian, is tasked to return to the surface to find and kill her, claiming the star’s power for darkness.
Jemma and Malokai join the crazy princess Breezelda and friends to form a fiercely loyal found family using the power of humility, elemental magic, and ancient martial arts to face the greatest evil the realms have ever seen.
Life Update:

I finally have pictures of the purple lillies! I thought I could show you guys some of our other flowers, too.
So, in January 2021, my grandma died. When I was about to leave her funeral, my cousin approached me and asked if I wanted to take some of the flowers that people bought for her funeral and I said “sure.”
And, I ended up with these purple lilies. I decided to harvest some of the seeds, and leave them in my fridge until spring so I could then plant them. And, every single year, these flowers come back. They always remind me of her.

I actually don’t remember what these purple flowers are called, but I just loved that they look like a drawing.
The left photo is an update on the hibiscus. There are so many new flowers on it!
Other than flowers, I am feeling great this week. I applied for a job and I’m just waiting to hear back, and I still need to take my Bookkeeping exam. But, what is new there? 🤣
I read three different books in May and I feel like I am really close to being out of a reading slump.
My life took an unexpected turn this year, but I really have found a new normal. I am excited to move forward and become a new person. The person I was meant to be this whole time, but someone else was creating this darkness in my life that I couldn’t see.
It almost feels like a blessing in a way. I would’ve just kept allowing negativity to cast a shadow over my life if this didn’t happen. I wouldn’t be able to make all the plans I have these last few months and I’m so excited to execute them.
The rest of 2024 and into 2025 will hopefully be some of the best months in my entire life. I really appreciate all of you sticking around while I went through all this. I tried to keep posting consistently all year even though I didn’t read much at all.
I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to make content you guys would want to read without actually reading any books, but it worked out for me in the end.

What I Watched:
I actually watched A LOT this week. I hadn’t really been watching TV a lot in the last month. And, I haven’t watched any TV with a plot since 2023. I am just the type of person who will throw on a baking show instead.
But, this week I watched two shows, one documentary, and started another show.
First, I watched the documentary on the Burning Sun scandal. It’s actually up on YouTube. I got into kpop in 2019, so I did know about this. But, it was worse than I thought.
If you don’t know, a member of kpop group Big Bang named Seungri was arrested, along with many other men, for being in this disgusting chat group. These men were drugging women, raping them, and filming it to send to one another.
They were all convicted for different amounts of time, and are all out of prison right now. The reason Seungri is talked about most is because many of these instances where they were victimizing women was in Seungri’s night club where even the employees knew about it and would participate in it as well.
Next, I decided to finally watch Baby Reindeer. This one is based on a true story and is on Netflix.
It follows Donny, who is based on and played by Richard Gadd. He is nice to this much older woman, who comes into the bar he works at one day, and she becomes obsessed with him. And, even goes on to stalk him for many years.
It’s actually very cringey to watch, but also such an amazing story. I cannot even imagine how hard it must have been for Gadd to relive this while playing the character.
Steer clear of this one if you are triggered by stalking or sexual assault.
The last thing I watched was The 8 Show, also on Netflix. Wow, this one was crazy. It’s a Korean show following 8 people who go into this building where they cannot leave and they also earn money for every minute they stay.
But, they also have to earn time if they want to stay longer to make more money, and really terrible things ensue for money’s sake.
This show really is an entire metaphor for classism and how higher classes have more money and more power, despite working much less. Each character represents a different type of person in society, and it was honestly so good.
It is sort of like Squid Games, but it’s much shorter paced. But, it was also an amazing show. I don’t know if this one is getting another season, but if not, it ended in a good place.
The show I started was another Korean Netflix show called Sweet Home. I’ve only watched an episode and a half, so I’m not sure if I fully like it yet.
It’s sort of a zombie show. The zombies are a bit different from the traditional type, and the CGI is terrible. But, the plot of it isn’t too bad. I Googled whether they were meant to be zombies or some crazy type of alien, and it said zombies.
It starts out with this guy who moves into a new apartment complex before the apocalypse breaks out. All the people in this apartment building are trying to survive, but the zombies are slowly getting in and are seemingly impossible to kill.
There is a new season coming soon, which will be season three. So, I’m hoping the zombie CGI gets better at some point.
