The Ultimate Book Tag

Hello readers! It’s tag Thursday, and for this tag Thursday, I have the ultimate book tag. I have no idea who actually created this tag. I found two posts that credited different people for creating it, but I actually don’t think either of them did.

Let me know if you know who created it and I’ll credit them for sure!

Do you get sick while reading in the car?

Nope. I don’t read in the car that often, though, because I like talking a lot while in the car.

Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?

I would say Tahereh Mafi. She has that flowery writing that so many people love. I can’t imagine how difficult it is to write in that way. I don’t like writing with a lot of metaphors like that, but I think it’s still unique.

Harry Potter series or Twilight saga? Give three points to defend your answer.

I would have to say Twilight.

I didn’t really choose to be a HP fan as a kid. I only watched it because my parents did. I fell in love with Twilight by myself.

Two, I love any and all stories with vampires. I need more vampire books in my life.

Lastly, I LOVE love triangles. I am a sucker for the drama in a love triangle, even if I think Bella made the wrong choice. 🤣🤣🤣

Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is in it?

I don’t carry one regularly, but I have one that I’ll carry to the library. It is this Kate Spade book tote that looks just like the picture on the right.

I never know if I’ll leave the library with more books than I want to carry, especially because myself, my husband, and my daughter will all usually get our own books when we go.

Do you smell your books?

Yes! Nothing is better than a book smell. I wish there was a candle out there or something that smelled like books.

Books with or without little illustrations?

I love when we get full page illustrations so I can see what the characters should really look like. Other than that, I don’t care either way.

What book did you love while reading, but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?

I would say anything I really enjoyed in high school or around the age of 19. I went back and read a few books from that time and hated them the 2nd time around.

One that sticks out the most is Eleanor and Park. I read this right after high school and really enjoyed it.

I reread it again in 2019, so I would’ve been 25, and I hated this book. First of all, a Korean person would never be named Park. Park is a last name and his parents were immigrants, so I know for sure they wouldn’t give their kid a last name for a first name.

Eleanor was also just mean when it came to Park. But, at least it was a good representation of young love being a little naive. I don’t know, I don’t hate it now, but it really showed how much my taste changed.

You know, this is the reason that I am actually scared to reread books I loved before. I don’t want to ruin my memory of it like I did with Eleanor and Park.

Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood?

Well, when I was a teenager, I used to be very well known in my hometown for walking around town and reading at the same time.

No one really knew me personally or my name, but I would always be asked in public if I was that girl who would read and walk at the same time.

I was actually really good at it. I am a good multitasker, so I could easily pay attention to traffic and read all at once. Plus, my hometown is pretty small, so the traffic wasn’t too bad.

What is the thinnest book on your shelf?

I believe this is my tiniest book. It’s 56 pages long and is an entire poetry book about cats. It’s pretty odd and quirky, but worth the read.

I got this one at a library book sale when I was 19 because I thought the title was kind of funny, and I still have it to this day.

What is the thickest book on your shelf?

The longest book I own is the longest book I’ve ever read, which is Les Mis. Les Miserables is 1232 pages long.

It follows this man named Jean Valjean who escapes from being imprisoned and is on run for the rest of his life. He keeps building up a new life, and then gets found by this man who has been trying to find him.

It’s really such a good story, but it does take a LONG time to get through. I would only recommend this one if you enjoy classics and books that show nearly the entire lifespan of one person.

Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?

I do enjoy writing. I wanted to be an author as a kid and have written a few of my own stories. I thought about trying to publish one I’ve been working on for many years, but I don’t know if I will.

The story is a sort of fae story. What is is about? I’m not really sure. I never thought of an ending. My fae are not like ACOTAR fae with smut and such, they are like Tinkerbell.

I don’t even know what age category I would mark it as because the main character, whose name is Cherry, starts out at 5, but rapidly ages through the story.

I might still do it one of these days, but I’m really not even sure.

When did you get into read?

I got into reading in middle school when I started reading Stephen King. I actually have an entire post about it that you can read HERE.

What is your favorite classic?

I would have to say that Les Mis is my favorite classic I’ve ever read. I really enjoyed the story, and honestly I felt so accomplished finishing that big of a book.

In school, was your best subject Language Arts/English?

Not at all. English was my worst subject as a kid. I didn’t learn how to write properly until I was in college. I was always bad at remembering my adjectives, verbs, nouns, etc..

I also had horrible handwriting as a kid and really worked on it as an adult.

I really resent my years in school. No one really helped me as I struggled in any grade. But, when I became an adult, I taught myself everything I needed to know.

I am still not the best at grammar, punctuation, and other things like that, but I think I do okay. Going to college and writing on this blog as long as I have has really helped me there.

If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated, what would you do?

This happened to me a few years ago, twice. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. It’s the thought that counts! My mom had bought me a Stephen King book, and it was one I already owned. So, I just got rid of my original copy. I like the cover of the one she gave me better.

I own around 40 of Stephen King’s books, so it was bound to happen that I’d get gifted one I already have.

The second time was also my mom, but the edition was the same, so I just got rid of one of them. I would never say anything to the person! I also own over 350 books, so it wouldn’t be crazy for someone to accidentally get me a book I own in general.

What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?

I have to say for Hunger Games, it’s Battle Royal, which is the book many people have accused Suzanne Collins of plagiarizing.

I personally think this book just inspired a lot of dystopian books. Another book that is very similar is Red Rising.

For Harry Potter, I would say Amari and the Night Brothers. This is more of a paranormal version of it, but there is plenty of magic.

I really loved reading this one and I hope to reread it at some point to continue the series one day.

What is a bad habit you always do while blogging?

I occasionally have the habit of leaving writing posts to the very last minute. I will look at the clock and realize my post is supposed to go up in a few hours for the next day.

I have become better about it these days, but it still happens every once in a while.

What is your favorite word?

I honestly don’t know. I never thought about it. Do you guys have a favorite word?

Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or, all of the above?

Probably all. I am a bit socially awkward, I love to learn new things, and all those things. I don’t mind being a bit different.

Vampires or faeries? Why?

Vampires. I need the vampire trend to come back! I miss it so much.

Shapeshifters or angels? Why?

Shapeshifters. I just think shapeshifters is a very broad category and it can be more interesting. I’m sorry but Supernatural kind of killed angel and demon story lines for me. I’m not against them, but I’ve seen it too much.

Spirits or werewolves? Why?

Spirits. I honestly don’t really enjoy werewolf stories. I haven’t read that many, but the ones I have read aren’t that interesting unless there are also vampires or something else.

Zombies or vampires?

Vampire again. Along with really loving vampires in general, I really don’t enjoy zombie stories. Some can be good, but for the most part it’s a no.

Love triangle or forbidden love?

Depends on the forbidden love, but I also love a good love triangle. Forbidden love gives me the ick. I mostly think of big age gaps which make me so uncomfortable. I know it can also be two people on opposite ends of a war or something, but still.

Full on romance book or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?

I honestly can go for either. I love a good story line in my romance, but I also don’t really care if the book doesn’t have a plot outside of the romance.
