The Classics Book Tag

Hello readers! This week we are talking about classics. I LOVE classics, but I haven’t read many in the recent years. There good, but I have to be in the mood for it.

This tag was created by It’s A Book World.

An overhyped classic you really didn’t like

I know the Bronte sisters are beloved, but I just don’t like their books. Wuthering Heights was one I read in high school and didn’t like one bit, and I tried to reread it many years later. I still didn’t like it.

This book was written in the literary era called the romanticism era. This is an era I don’t really enjoy much. I did enjoy Les Miserables from this era, so I’m not exactly sure what it is about this era that I don’t like much.

Favorite time period to read about

I really just love French classics from any era. Most of what I’ve read is from the 1700s, but I’m open to anything.

Favorite Fairy-tale

I really love the original Cinderella. A teacher of mine read it to us when I was in 5th grade, but I’d love to actually read it myself one of these days.

The original story of Cinderella is so dark compared to the Disney version.

What is the classic you are embarrassed you haven’t read yet?

I would say anything by Alexandre Dumas. He most famously wrote The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers. I would love to read either of these books.

He is also another classic french author I haven’t tried, and I just know I’ll enjoy it once I get to it.

I haven’t read a classic in a few years, but I do love to read them when I’m in the mood to do so.

Favorite modern book/series based on a classic

I would have to say the Wicked Darlings series by Rebecca F Kenney. She just has retellings unlike anything I’ve read before.

She keeps them very dark, which I love. These books are action packed, quite violent, and also spicy as well.

Rebecca F Kenney is going to be huge one of these days.

Favorite movie/tv version based on a classic

I really love the 1997 Oliver Twist film. I haven’t read that book before, though.

Have you guys read this one?

Another Charles Dickens, but this time I’ve read it before.

I LOVE the Muppet’s version of A Christmas Carol. I have seen most of not all adaptations of this book and I personally think this is the best one out there.

I think the 1984 version is also very good, too. When I read this book in middle school, we watched both versions.

Worst classic to movie adaptation

I have no idea! I haven’t seen too many adaptations that I’ve also read the book of.

Favorite edition/s you’d like to collect more classics from

Most everyone who buys classics has an edition they love, and mine is Arcturus. This is a small publisher that mostly publishes non-fiction, but they also have a wide variety of classic novels.

I just love how colorful these editions are. However, they are virtually impossible to get anywhere online.

An underhyped classic you’d recommend to everyone

Honestly, I would say Recitatif by Toni Morrison. This book follows two girls, one of which is black and the other is white. What is the catch? You don’t know which is which, and it never says.

Toni Morrison challenges the reader to overcome racial biases. For instance, one girl might say the other has weird hair. Depending on your race, you might assume the race of the girl with the “weird” hair. I honestly love this fact about the book.

PLEASE read this one if you haven’t yet.
