Let’s Talk Bookish: Retellings

problematic authors

Hello readers! It’s time for Let’s Talk Bookish. I actually suggested a topic for LTB this last week. It didn’t appear on the April topics, but I think it’ll be on one of the future ones.

Have you ever suggested a topic for LTB, Book Blogger Hop, Top Ten Tuesday, Tell Me Something Tuesday, or any of those other weekly memes? That was the first time for me.

Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originated by Eternity Books and is currently hosted by Book Nook Bits. The accompanying thumbnail was also designed by Book Nook Bits. Each Friday, bloggers craft posts where they engage in discussions centered around the designated topic for the week.

Prompts: There is no end to the fictional retellings out there. From fairytales to Shakespeare to mythology all over the world, there are many stories that have been retold countless times in countless ways. Do you like reading retellings? What are some of your favorites? Are there any stories you’re tired of seeing retold? Do you think that there can be too many retellings?

I really love this topic idea because I recently found an enjoyment in retellings again. I was honestly tired of them for a few years.

I personally think there can be too many retellings because many people who do them do the same stories over and over. The thing that got me back into it was an indie author who retells stories that haven’t been done. I mean, she also does ones that have, but it was refreshing for me.

The author I’m talking about is Rebecca F Kenney. I started my journey through her books with a retelling of The Nutcracker. In her Wicked Darlings series, she also does a retelling of Wizard of Oz.

She also has a new series coming out later this year that’s a Gatsby retelling and Picture of Dorian Gray! I’m so excited for that series.

I have to say, her books are not for everyone. They are CRAZY. Very chaotic and bizarre in many ways. But, I love them.

Some of my favorite retellings:
