Guilty Reader Tag

Hello readers! It’s time for another tag. This is one I have done fore, but I decided to do it again. This one centers bookish habits you may have that make you feel a little guilty about.

The original was created by a Booktuber named Read Like Wildfire, who no longer exists.

Have you ever re-gifted a book you’ve been given?

Yes! I gave my mom some books for Christmas once that my aunt gave me. She gave me a big box of books and I gave a few to my mom. Other than the Stephen King in the box, most were books I don’t read. Especially at that time.

I also gave all the James Patterson to my husband, but he has since gotten rid of them. He thought he was a fan of Patterson, but he wasn’t. I’ve never read his books before and I honestly don’t ever want to.

Have you ever said your read a book when you didn’t?

When I was a teen, I would read a couple chapters of a book and tell people I read the whole thing. I don’t do that anymore, though! The concept of DNFing was not really a thing yet, so I would just pretend I read it.

I didn’t have many reader friends, so no one really could quiz me on a book to find out.

Have you ever borrowed a book and not returned it?

I did borrow Casual Vacancy from my mom once and eventually sold it. She didn’t want it back, so it was fine. She tried to read it and didn’t like it, and the same happened with me.

Have you ever read a series out of order

Last year, I read Yours Truly, which wasn’t the first book in the series. I did that for a post I was trying to do last year. Then, I ended up disliking so many of the books that I scrapped it.

The thing is, that is a romance series where every book is a different couple, so it didn’t really make a big difference if I read it out of order. Either way, I didn’t like the book at all, but it didn’t have anything to do with reading it out of order.

Have you ever spoiled a book for someone?

Only of they ask or if its a non-bookish person. I mean, my husband does read on occasion, but not nearly as much as I do. And, I’ll tell him all the details of the books I read. Not every single one, but the ones that I really enjoy or dislike the most.

Speaking of Yours Truly, I talked about that book in a video and spoiled a bit of it for someone who asked about the trope at the end that I HATED.

Okay, I’ll tell you guys. Warning! Spoilers within this paragraph for Yours Truly. The FMC in this book was recently divorced and we finally learn at the end why her husband left her. Basically, she had a miscarriage and he decided to use that as an excuse to cheat on her. I just hate that excuse. I cannot stand that trope where a man is so ‘traumatized’ by something that didn’t even happen within his own body that he has to abandon his wife.

Have you ever dog-eared a book?

Absolutely not! I wouldn’t want to cause damage to any of my books or anyone elses.

Have you ever told someone you don’t own a book when you do?

Sometimes I don’t let people know about our religious books. Because my husband and I are into theology, we own many religious books that some would find not good. Depending on the person of course.

My husband has a collection including the Bible, Torah, Quran, and even the Satanic Bible. Many people would not like to hear that, but I think they are all interesting to own.

Have y’all ever looked into Satanism? It’s kind of an anti-religion. They don’t even believe in Satan. It’s an atheist religion, which means they don’t believe in any god, and certainly not satan. Another, even more popular atheist religion is Buddhism. There is not god being worshiped in Buddhism.

Have you ever skipped a chapter or section of a book?

I do when I want to DNF a book, but also want to know the ending. Or, if I want to DNF, but it’s an ARC. I know you can DNF ARCs, but I don’t like to.

Have you ever bad mouthed a book you actually liked?

I don’t know if would be considered bad mouthing, but I do always try to point out things I don’t like in books if there was anything. Even if I give a book a 5 star, I’ll always let you guys know if there was something in it that I didn’t enjoy.

Other than that, I don’t think so. I’m not going to say NEVER.
