Out of My Comfort Zone Book Tag

Hello readers! This tag is all about favorite books in my most uncommon genres. I read pretty broadly as far as genres go, but I definitely read some genres more than others.

There are quite a few times in the past when I thought I didn’t like something and then I found something in that genre or trope that I liked. I LOVE to be proven wrong, so I don’t mind stepping far out of my comfort zone every once in a while.

This tag created by Booktuber Emmmabooks, but I can’t actually find the original.

A book that is an exception when it comes to genres or elements in books that you don’t typically like.

I really hate interview format, but I still decided to give this book a chance. It may have been because I listened to the audiobook, but I’m not sure.

I really don’t like reading books that have no descriptions. I don’t imagine stories in my head very easily, so if I’m not see descriptions, I am imagining them in a blank room through the whole story. I really need descriptions personally.

A book you enjoyed from a genre you previously held some stigma about.

Not only is this book a scifi, which is a genre I previously thought I really didn’t like, but it’s also an anthology. It showed me that I can enjoy anthologies, but they still are very hit or miss for me.

I would recommend Exhalation for anyone who enjoys technology or robot centered scifi books, which are my absolute favorite.

A book you didn’t know was actually out of your comfort zone until you started reading it.

This book is honestly unlike anything I’ve read before. It’s lovers to enemies and honestly was hard to read at times. I am SOOO happy to see how much success this author has gotten since publishing Glass and Bone!

It was far out of my comfort zone and I’m not sure if I would go out of my way to read more books like it because honestly, it’s just so sad. It’s like a grimdark romance, if that is a thing.

Pick a friend or book community member that motivates you to pick up books you might not normally be interested in. What is one book out of your norm that they convinced you to give a try?

One person who always has me reading books I never would have otherwise is my husband. He has me reading this book right now that centers a vampire in a zombie apocalypse. He doesn’t read often, but when he does, the books are vastly different from what I read, unless he is reading something I have recommended to him.

A book that is out of your comfort zone that you would like to read.

I do like scifi, but honestly ones that take place on a ship or in space at all don’t really appeal to me much. But, Project Hail Mary has been calling to me for a while.

I know I would’ve read this by now if Libby had it because I am actually very curious if I’ll like it or not. From what I’ve seen from other people, it seems to be hit or miss.

A book or genre so out of what you normally read that you’ll probably never give it a(nother) chance.

I would say anything with grotesque horror elements to it. I just cannot read it. I tried to read Wilder Girls a few years ago and couldn’t get past the first chapter.

I want to read this, but I just cannot do it. I need someone to tell me what happens! Or, I would definitely see it in the theatres if they made a movie.

I seriously do not know why my brain works like this, but I can watch any of the Saw movies any day but can barely read about someone having a splinter.

If someone has a cut or splinter in a book and they keep focusing on it, I have to put that book down. I am too weak for it. I accidentally found myself on splatterpunk Booktok this month and I don’t even know how. I am NEVER touching that genre and I am 100% sure I won’t change my mind on that.

  3. Great tag, I completely agree with Daisy Jones and the Sixx interview layouts is normally something I would give a miss but it works really well for that book
