Hello readers! It’s time to wrap up my reading month. This month went horribly. I just had so many that I really didn’t like. I didn’t even get one five star read, which is making me nervous about this entire reading year.
How did your reading month go? I hope it was much better than mine.

Honestly, I really enjoyed the reread of Throne of Glass more after having read Assassin’s Blade this time around.
I know every person who has ever read this series is very passionate about where you should read Assassin’s Blade, but I liked reading it first. It made Throne of Glass better knowing everything that led up to Throne of Glass as a series. Also, the end of Assassin’s Blade got me. 😭

I got through my first Brandon Sanderson book of 2024. I should’ve read this in January 2023, but here we are. I really enjoyed this book, mostly because of Steris. We really get to spend a lot of time with the characters in this book and is not too plot heavy until the end.
I’m going to finally be finishing this series next month! I seriously cannot wait. But, I’m also sad because there isn’t anymore Mistborn to read after that.

As you can probably see, I dove head first into this series this month. My IPB marathon was going really well, until I hit book 3, Barbarian Lover.
I enjoyed book one, a lot. I thought the world building and Georgie not being able to communicate with Vektal was kind of funny.
Then, I read book two. To be honest, I enjoyed book two the most out of all of them and the villain of book two was Vektal, which made me really start to hate Georgie and Vektal in general.
Book three, Barbarian Lover, follows a woman who is infertile. Through the entire book, we were reminded over and over that she was ‘broken’ because she couldn’t have any kids. AND THEN, the ending was exactly the opposite of what I wanted to happen with an infertile character.
I went ahead and read the honeymoon novella that went with it and it was WORSE. The MMC was completely overbearing and it was just shrugged off as if she couldn’t just tell him to get his shit together. The men in these books have no self control.
I thought about going ahead and reading book four, and I might still do that in the future, but I’m just not sure at this point.

🌟 🌟
I really gave this one a good shot. I read about 2/3rds of it. So many people have given this good reviews from bloggers to booktok and I just don’t get it.
This one is a battle royale of vampires, except our MC is a human who lives amongst vampires.
This is one of those tell and not show books. I don’t want to be TOLD that she kills vampires in her spare time, I want to SEE it. I don’t want to be TOLD that Vincent was this all powerful vampire, I want to SEE it.
I really didn’t care for the characters either. I just couldn’t connect with them, which is pretty important for me to be engaged with the story. I’m happy I finally got to it, but I honestly didn’t like it much.

🌟 🌟
I knew I wouldn’t get the book I wanted to read for Buzzwordathon in time from Libby, so I found something else with their/there/they’re in the title.
This was a short and spicy book, but I just didn’t really enjoy it. We didn’t get to know the characters enough. It’s the first book in a series and I just don’t really have any interest in reading the rest.

🌟 🌟 🌟
I then decided I was in a scifi mood and picked up Binti. It follows a woman who leaves her own planet to go to a college. While she is on the ship, it gets taken over by these aliens who want to kill everyone on the planet she is going to, and she spends the book trying to convince them not to.
It was just okay. I would’ve enjoyed this book more if it would’ve been longer. It was supposed to be a horror and I think it could’ve been way scarier than it was. It just wasn’t for me.

Well, this was a journey. It follows a 16 year old named Darrow. He is part of a big group of people called ‘reds’ who are attempting to colonize Mars by living underground. During the book, he finds out that Mars already has people living on it and all the reds are slaves.
He then spends most of the book posing as a gold, the highest tier of the color chain, while he tries to take down the system.
I was really enjoying this book at the beginning. When he was just living his life as a red, to him finding out about being a slave, to him training to be a gold. Once he is a gold, I started not enjoying it as much. The second half of the book is a Battle Royale type story and I just wasn’t interested in it. I am not reading 6 or 7 more books to find out when this guy brings down the whole government and their color system.

🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
I then picked up this surprise release by Rebecca F Kenney. It’s a short story, about 50 pages, following Finias and Clara.
I will NEVER complain about getting more of Clara and Fin’s story. It was short and sweet, and I really needed that after all these previous books.

🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Well, this was an interesting sequel to Fourth Wing. I slowly read it through the month and was mostly bored through it. Once I got to the half way point, I didn’t love what we were doing with Dain’s character.
I don’t like how Yarros tries to make almost every character redeemable. Like, we didn’t under stand their motivation the whole time and once we do, we are just supposed to like them. I am still interested in reading onto book three, but I’m not loving the direction this series is going.
