Fantasy Romance Reader Tag

Hello readers! Its February already! Usually January is a pretty slow month for me, but this time it went by pretty quickly. As it’s also a Thursday, it’s time for a tag. This one centers fantasy romance.

Have you guys seen that fantasy romance/romantasy debate lately? It’s all over the book community on what is fantasy romance versus romantasy. I personally hate the word romantasy and only use the term fantasy romance.

The Fantasy Romance Reader Tag was created by Booktuber Hannah Blackwell. You can click on her name to see the original.

What book got you into fantasy romance for the first time?

Call me a stereotype, but I started with ACOTAR. I read ACOTAR in 2020. I was so TERRIFIED to read this author. I didn’t want to dislike the book.

Honestly, I thought ACOTAR was just okay. I gave it a three, but I have since read ACOMAF, ACOWAR, and ACOSF, and enjoyed them all.

If you could pick 1 fantasy world to move to, for the rest of your life, which world would you move to?

Wayward Children is technically set in the human world, but I think it would be so fun to live in a world where we could travel between many different portals.

I’m not sure I would be happy going to every world we explore within the series, but some of them seem really fun.

If you could marry 1 bookish hero or heroine who would it be?

The FMC is maneater is one of my favorites I’ve read. I know this book is all smut, no plot, but I don’t mind that one bit.

Elle is a succubus, plus size, and super confident in herself. I love to see characters like this! The entire discord of Emily Antoinette after this book came out was everyone swooning over Elle, and I’m totally with them.

If you could be 1 fantasy creature/magical being, what would you be?

I have to pick a vampire because I’m a sucker for paranormal romances. I wasn’t sure if I should pick paranormal books for this post, but I see it as part of fantasy.

If you could kill 1 fantasy romance character, who would you off?

I’m going to have to pick any character that gives Tamlin vibes, including Tamlin. Adam Kent from Shatter Me is one. That’s not fantasy, though. Dain Aetos from Fourth Wing as well. Any male character who only seeks to control the FMC ‘for their own good’. 🤮

I’m less than half way through Iron Flame at the time of writing this, so Dain could change, but I bet he wont.

What fantasy romance character do you truly believe would be your irl best friend?

I honestly think Pym is someone who needs some amazing friends. She is a person who has always been alone and I would love to be her friend.

What would be your fantasy weapon of choice???

I would easily say a war hammer. Every time I play Skyrim, I use a war hammer. I know it would be heavy, but isn’t something that the enemy gets back up after they’ve been hit with it.

Who is the sexiest fantasy romance character of all time?

I am so BORED of the MMCs who all look the same besides their hair colors.

I was enamored with Finn from A Court of Sugar and Spice because he is so different. He is the male version of the sugar plum fairy and I honestly wish we got to see more MMCs like him in fantasy books.

He also has magic that involves candy and we all know I love a food related book!

Pick 1 fantasy romance book to burn.

I was doing a post where I read the book communities best books of 2023. Then, I read this book and it ruined the whole thing for me. I read 300 pages of this book and I regret every single one.

I would’ve eventually read this book, but honestly I wish it was a book that I pushed to the back of my TBR and forgot forever.

You can choose 1 fantasy romance book. It’s the only book you will ever be able to read again; what is it?

100% will be A Court of Sugar and Spice. This is my favorite book of 2023 and absolutely is my favorite fantasy romance book I’ve read.

If you could recommend 1 fantasy romance book to a reader that was new to the genre and wanted to try it out, what book would it be?

This may sound generic, but I honestly think this is the perfect place to start. It is pretty fantasy centered with a bit of smut. I used to think it was a lot of smut, but I’ve read so much since then that I know it isn’t.

Even though I love A Court of Sugar and Spice, I don’t know if that would be anywhere near a place to start for the lover of fantasy romance unless you already read both fantasy and romance separately.

I mean, if you enjoy ACOTAR even a little bit, you will probably enjoy fantasy romance as a genre.
