Hello readers! The Goodread’s Choice Awards nominees are out! I love that we got a fantasy romance category this year, but am also sad to see the middle grade category is gone. I thought I’d let you know what I’m voting for in every category.
I am still working on my post about reading the winners for romance. I have made my list and organized them by what is the most read. Usually the most read books are at the top. Once final the list is out, I hope to bring you guys that post!
Fiction

The only two I have read from this category are Yellowface and Maame. This was a hard one because I enjoyed them both, but I went with Yellowface.
Historical Fiction
I haven’t read even one book in this category, so no vote for me. I don’t typically read historical books unless they are also a mystery or fantasy or something.
Mystery/Thriller

Last year I had read like 6 or 7 books in this category and this year I have only read one! Every time I get the newest Lisa Jewell book on Libby, I don’t have time to read it.
I really didn’t like I Have Some Questions For You, which is the only one I’ve read. So, I will NOT be voting for anything.
I just haven’t been in a thriller mood this year. I’ve read mostly romance in 2023.
Romance

The only book I’ve finished is Happy Place, but I’m currently reading Love, Theoretically.
Happy Place will no doubt win.
I am about to start Final Offer and I honeslty think I would vote for that based on how much I have enjoyed the other books in the series. But, I’m going to wait until the very last day to vote with what else I have read.
I didn’t really love Happy Place and I’m 200 pages into Love, Theoretically. I have to see how the end goes, but so far it’s just okay for me. I feel like I’m not smart enough for it. All the science-y jokes and everything have gone over my head completely.
Romantasy

Well, the only book I’ve read in this category is Fourth Wing, so I’ll be voting for it. I honestly don’t think any other book has a chance to win here.
Yarros has another book in the romance category that doesn’t have many reads, but might end up at the top of that category based on this book.
Fantasy

The only book I have read in this category is Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries. I really enjoyed this book and have an ARC for book two that comes out in January.
I do own the book that Brandon Sanderson wrote on the list, but haven’t read it yet. I only read the Wizard book he published this year and it’s more of a scifi.
Scifi

The Marriage Act is one of my favorites of the year. I was so suprised that Sanderon’s Frugal Wizards Handbook didn’t make it to the list.
I am voting for The Marriage Act for sure as I really loved it a lot.
Horror
I have not read one book in this category. I don’t read a lot of horror books and the one I did read this year was YA. I did hope to get to Silver Nitrate and Holly, but I honestly just didn’t have the time.
YA Scifi Fantasy

The only book I’ve read on this list is Divine Rivals and I really didn’t like it.
I KNOW everyone else did, though. So I can see it winning for sure. I’m not voting for it, though.
YA Fiction
I do not read much YA anymore and did not read even one book in this category. I don’t have anything to vote for here, so I won’t be.
Debut Novel

Maame is the only one I have read in the debut novel, so I went ahead and voted for it. I’m glad I can vote for it here as I didn’t in fiction.
Nonfiction
Why are there so many different non-fiction categories? I haven’t read anything in this one.
Memoir/Autobiography

I would not have guessed this would be the category I’ve read the most in.
I really hope to read the other Duggar sisters book that came out this year and the Britney Spears one. I am like 900th in line for The Woman In Me, though.
My vote went for Elliot Page’s book. Out of these three, I liked that one the most. But, none were all-time favorites.
History/Biography
This is yet another category I haven’t read anything in. I didn’t vote for anything.
Humor
This last category was also one I didn’t read anything in. I’m just happy I had anything to vote for this year. I read a ton of new releases in 2022 and the nominees were all over the place.
Let me know what you voted for! Or, drop your post in the comments. I’d love to see everyone’s answers.
