Hello readers!
This tag was created by Booktuber The YA Room and was inspired by the Buzzfeed Unsolved channel.
SHANIAC: A book you don’t think is deserving of its hype.

I just don’t get what everyone is loving about this book. I did go to Goodreads and read some 1 and 2 star reviews and there are some people who agree with me about it.
This owrld building makes no sense and neither does that romance. I know, 97% of people do not agree.
BOOGARA: A book that chilled you to the core.

This book was so good. Each horrofic scene is more horrific than the last. I loved the build up. I love seeing killer mermaids. Honestly, scifi-horror is so good and I haven’t read much of it.
If you want something that is scary, has disability rep, and doesn’t have too much body horror, try Into the Drowning Deep.
SHITFISH: A book you’re not sure where you stand on.

I picked up run and Hide last month not knowing much about it. It turned out to be a monster romance (which I knew) with a bit more monster than I’m used to.
Seriously, it had a siren gut with tentacle stuff and Mothman, if you can assume what happened with that. It was BIZARRE. However, I really liked the thriller aspects of it. I am not sure if I’m going to continue this series. The smut was a bit weird for me, but it ended on a cliffhanger. Should I keep going? I’m seriously not sure.
HEY THERE DEMONS, IT’S ME, YA BOI: A book that kept you up at night.

This book has a lot of body horror involving bugs and I seriously cannot get it out of my head. If bodsy horror doesn’t bother you, I’d recommend this one. I was enjoying it before that happened and had to DNF soon after.
However, I know the problem is all me. It did it’s job very, very well.
(WHEEZE): A book that made you laugh out loud.
I don’t really read funny books. The only books I read like that are Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I like books that are a bit more grim or spicy.
MOTHMAN: A hyped fave.

Why not choose the most hyped book of 2023? I absolutely loved this book. I can see why everyone likes it.
Has anyone tried any of her other books? I had one on Hoopla to try in August, but I never got around to it. I haven’t heard anyone talk about her other books. Maybe because this one is so different from them.
HOLY WATER: A book you’d protect with your life.

This book is one that I will not be accepting criticism on. This book is so good. It has a lot of spice, two seperate romances, it’s a portal fantasy (which is a fave of mine), has a ton of action and fight scenes, and is a retelling of something I’ve never read a retelling of before.
Rebecca F. Kenney is quickly becoming a favorute author of mine and I can’t wait to read all of her backlist.
DEMONS: A book you’re too scared to read.

I don’t know if y’all have heard of this one but I’ve seen it a lot on Tik Tok. Even before I was on Booktok, I saw this book. I heard all about it and what happens on page 40. Y’all, if you have a weak stomach, don’t even look this book up or what is on that page. I am terrfiied of this book and will never be reading it.
I would probably be too scared to read anything within the splatter-punk genre, but especially this one.
BUT FOR NOW, THIS MYSTERY WILL REMAIN… UNSOLVED: A book you needed more from / didn’t want to end.

This book was less than 200 pages and I would’ve read these characters for 1000 pages. It was so weird because I was looking for some body diversity for male characters and this book had a skinny man in it that wasn’t muscular. I was so excited to find that out because all men in books look the dang same.
That mixed with a curvy lust demon was such a good story for me. It doesn’t have much of a plot though, if you are looking for that in your romance books.
BUZZFEED UNSOLVED POSTMORTEM: A book you still have questions about.

I want to know why are we fighting in a war for these gods? What are they fighting about exactly that effects the humans? Who are we exactly hiding from when the sirens go off? What side of said war are we even on?
I want to know what the world actually looks like. Are you telling me it looks exactly like ours despite having magic? I cannot fathom that. I have too many questions to list.
HOT DAGA: A trashy fave.

I think trashy is kind of a harsh word, but I’ll take a plotless romance any day. I like romances with plot, but I also love a good 150 page romance with no plot that I can read in a day. Deal With A Demon is just one of many I have enjoyed this year. They are really good pallete cleansers!
When I’m feeling slumpy a bit, I’ll pick up one of these books and it’ll get me excited to read again. I highly recommend reading ‘trashy’ romance if your in a slump.
