3rd Quarter Reading Stats

Hello readers! it’s time to go over my reading stats for the 3rd quarter of 2023. I had a better time reading in these last 3 months than I did in the entire 1st half of the year.

I read 51 books, which is 12 more than the entire first half of 2023, and 14,018 pages, 3,551 more than the first six months. This has been a crazy quarter, thats for sure. I read majority ebooks! I have been nearly an exclusive audiobook reader for a few years now.

I have still been listening to audiobooks when I have to do things around the house and such, but they are not taking priority. I have just found my passion again for reading with my actual eyes.

I have also read almost exclusively adult books. I just haven’t been in a middle grade mood or anything lately.

I have never read more than 50% adult books overall and we are well past that, even for the whole year.

As I am now in my late 20s, YA just doesn’t hit the same anymore. I do still read it here and there, but I don’t love it like I used to.

I am absolutely in my Kindle Unlimited era. I have had a 2 month free trial that goes out in a few days. I will be keeping it as my KU TBR is huge. I love having it because it is full of indie authors and I love supporting them.

I would love to explore it more to find some books outside of the romance genre, but it is still worth it and I hope to keep it for a long time.

As I have been on KU a lot, I have been reading mostly 2023 books on there. I did read the oldest published book I’ve read all year in this quarter, though!

I am planning to read A LOT more 2023 releases in the last quarter as well. This year just had so many good one, indie and traditional publishing alike.

Ratings have not been too bad. Of course, I did give a very big book on Tik Tok one star, which scared me a little, but otherwise have been doing great.

15 5 star reads out of 51 isn’t too shabby! I gave out 16 in the first 6 months of the year and I think I was being a bit too generous back then. I tried to reevaluate my rating system a bit in this past quarter.

Out of the previous 16, I only considered one that I really loved and that bothered me. I can say this quarter has much better results.

I have always struggled with this thing where I cannot read 3 books of the same genre in a row without slumping really bad.

I think I have found my cheat for this! It’s romance books. I can read all kinds of different subgenres of romance and never tire of it.

70% of my reading this quarter was romance or some subgenre of it. I convinced myself for so long that I wasn’t a romance reader and I was dead wrong.

Do y’all see the issue with this? LOOK at my number of started series. What was I thinking?! I have screwed the pooch there.

We are going to HAVE to do a series project in 2024 after that mess.

The good thing is that I did finish 4 series, but starting almost 20 is just not good. I’m going to have to break my series I started this year post in two because it will be too long.

I have spent a lot of time reading from from indie authors due to my Kindle Unlimited subscription and all these ARCs.

I will be toning down on the ARCs in November, but I am not slowing down with indie books! I’ve read most of the trad pubbed books that I want to for 2023 and it allowed me to really focus on the indie books.
