Hello readers! Today’s post is a LTB! This weeks prompt is a freebie, so I got to pick any topic I wanted. I decided to pick one from August 2022. I wasn’t even participating in this weekly meme until this year, so I know I haven’t done this one.
Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originated by Eternity Books and is currently hosted by Book Nook Bits. The accompanying thumbnail was also designed by Book Nook Bits. Each Friday, bloggers craft posts where they engage in discussions centered around the designated topic for the week.
Prompts: For this fifth Friday of September, use this week to revisit an old LTB topic, or write about something you’re interested in! You can also check out the LTB archives on my blog and on Rukky’s for more topic ideas.
(August 5, 2022) Prompts: Are ebooks the future of books? What are the advantages and disadvantages of ebooks? Are ebooks strictly better than physical books? Do all avid readers prefer real, paper books? Do you use an e-reader, or read on a phone/tablet? Do you ever find yourself missing one or the other?
I don’t think ebooks will take over physical books any time in the near future. I know many people who are readers also like to own the books. Then, there are those collectors that love to own the beautiful editions and all that.
Ther are plenty things that ebooks don’t have that physical books do. You don’t get to look at them on your shelf for one. Also, I LOVE the smell of books. There is nothing better than buying a new books and smelling it. It’s the best thing ever. I’m also not afraid to take a phyiscal book into a bathtub. I have dropped books in the tub before in the very distant past, but I know the book will be fine. My Kindle wont make it through a drop in the tub.
Print books cannot be copied online and uploaded to piracy sights. I have heard so many indie authors struggling with that recently.
Now, ebooks have so many advantages. I like that I can hold it in one hand. I like that I can read in the dark without any lightsource. Sometimes I stay up after my husband falls asleep and read for a while. Sure, I have a book light, but it isn’t as good.
I love the customization of ebooks. I have a hard time with reading books that don’t have a good amount of space between lines. Of course, there is the advantage of making the font big if you have vision impairments. I keep mine on the smallest size, personally.
There is a dyslexia font! It is very rare that a book is printed with the dyslexia font and ebooks have that option. I don’t personally have dyslexia, but many people do that love to read.
E-ARCs are much more cost effective than sending a physical ARC. Indie authors don’t have all this money to pay to buy a book and then the shipping to send to us. I know they have to pay for things like BookFunnel and BookSirens, but that is a set amount. E-ARCs are by no means free, but they can cost a lot less for them.
Then there is the space thing. Is there a limit of Kindle books you can own? I don’t think there is. I like being able to get books through KU or Libby to see if I’ll like it before buying. It saves space and money. I really hate buying a book and then later disliking the book and unhauling it.
I personally read no all platforms. I do read phyiscal books, but it isn’t my most popular format. I also listen to audiobooks on my phone and read ebooks on my Kindle. However, I do have this graphic novel app on my phone as well. I know people read Kindle books on their phones, but it is just too small for me to do that. Also, I would get distracted by notifications if I was reading on my phone! I don’t enjoy reading those graphic novels on my phone, but they don’t have a Kindle app yet.
I missed reading with my eyes for a few years now. I would mostly only read phyiscal/ebooks if they were graphic novels. In August, I finally got back to it!
