Hello readers! I wasn’t really sure what to call this one, but it does center reading tastes and how often you read outside of it. I love this topic! I am even going to show some screenshots this time.
Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originated by Eternity Books and is currently hosted by Book Nook Bits. The accompanying thumbnail was also designed by Book Nook Bits. Each Friday, bloggers craft posts where they engage in discussions centered around the designated topic for the week.
Prompts: How stubborn of a reader are you? How often do you stray from reading books not in your favorite genres? Do you sometimes dabble in genres you usually eschew? Or do you read any genre, and have no favorites?
I am one of those people who loves reading outside of my comfort zone. I understand why it is that people pick one or two genres and stick with them forever. However, I love to read just about everything.
Of course, I don’t go out of my way to find things, tropes, or authors I hate and read them to see what will happen. However, I will sometimes push my boundaries a bit. I thought for many years that I hated all scifi and thrillers. Now, I love both genres. I just hadn’t found the right book or found exactly what I specifically didn’t like in those genres.
I know the color scheme is crazy, but below is my breakdown of genres for 2023 so far.

I track down to the specific subgenres! I read all over the place. I honestly cannot read more than 3 books in a row within the same genre or I get really bored. I have learned I can cheat with romance. There are dozens of subgenres of romance and I’ve been bouncing between them all year long.
I do have a few things that I avoid almost 100% of the time. One is space opera scifi. I really am not interested in space ships or space battles in general. However, I did read Skyward last year and enjoyed it.
I thought I hated books with aliens in it, but I’ve learned that I love alien romance, as long as it doesn’t get too weird. The aliens have to look as human as possible!
When it comes down to what books to read, I only avoid books with certain tropes of triggers I don’t like. I think every book deserves a chance. Sometimes I have a big miss and hate the book outside of my comfort zone, but I am pretty good at not doing that. I think I had two or three books this year that were misses and only one was a BIG miss.
With genres, I do have favorites for sure, but I get into different moods and the favorites will change. Sometimes I’m only in the mood for fantasy books and other times I cannot focus enough to read a fantasy. Right now, I am in a romance kick.
Does your most read genre change or do you read within a certain number of genres? Leave me a comment and let me know!
