Huge September TBR ft Battleathon

Hello readers! It’s time for my TBR for next month. It is stupidly long, but I think I can do it! I have a readathon I want to participate in and quite a few ARCs to get to as well, making 10 books total. I know I have some other ARCs that I hould be getting later on.

Battleathon was created by Booktuber Mel Lenore Reads and there are 8 cohosts linked under her video along with the discord and everything else.

This readathon is team based and honestly reminds me of Fourth Wing. I don’t know if that was the intent or not. I’m on the black dragon team! Honestly, I picked it based on the prompt and the fact that Becca and the Books is a leader of that team. She is my favorite Booktuber, so I’m biased. However, the creator has a quiz to match you up with a dragon if you want to do it that way.

Below are some screenshots from her Google Doc about the readathon that is linked under her video!

Black Dragon: Loyal to a Fault: Read a Book With a Prominent Relationship

Now, when it comes to these prompts, I believe the dragon prompt is the only one you actually have to do All others are just bonus for the first week.

In the first week of September, I am hoping to get to Treacherous Notion. As of writing this, I haven’t read book one, but I’m gonna read that one before September comes.

I have an ARC of book three in this series. Although the author said they can be read as standalones, I am going to read all three anyway. Each one is a spicy rockstar romance. I’ll let you know more once I’ve read book 1.

Spark Your Dragon: Read a red book

This is book 2 of this spicy retelling series called Wicked Darlings. The first book retells the Nutcracker, this one retells Alice in Wonderland, and book 3 is a retelling of Wizard of Oz (and is not out yet).

I’m currently reading book 1 and am really enjoying it so far. Book 1 has food, spicy scenes, Christmas/winter vibes, and a retelling of something I’ve never read a retelling of before.

Expect book 3 to be read by me as well in September! Book three comes out on the 8th.

Saddle Up: Read a book where the title is some sort of movement

Ok, I am not sure if tear counts as a movement, but I think it does. Tearing something takes movement, right? Of all the books on my TBR for September, this one is the closest to a movemtn that I have.

Tear in reality is an ARC I received that comes out on the 22nd of this month. This one is by a black indie author! I believe she is still looking for ARC readers, if you are interested in that. Check her website to see!

The author pitched it as a for fans of Vampire Academy and Shadowhunter Chronicles. It’s a YA urban fantasy following a witch, a werewolf, a vampire, and a seer who have discovered a plot that left many of the the city’s supernatural residents dead. They know they are next and must find out who the killer or killers are before it’s too late. It has multiple realms and realities, found family, friends to lovers, and the grumpy sunshine trope.

Strengthen the Bond: Read a book in a series

This one will also count for that bonus of an author I’ve given a 5 star to before!

One for the Money is a novella in the Night Huntress series. The audiobook is a little over an hour long and will be an easy one to add to my week. The previous books are around 1k pages and I need something short to get this last one in.

I actually have not read this novella before, so that’s also a fun bonus.

Here is another ARC I got this month! I received 2 ARCs on NetGalley this month. Both of the books don’t come out till next year. However, I cannot wait to read this one. I know I’ll buckle and read it in September. The other ARC I got, I’ll get to this year as well, but I want to read it closer to the day of.

Lisa Jewell is one of my favorite authors. Even though she wrote one of my least favorite books of 2023, I still am HYPED for her newest release. I am 4th in line for this one on Libby, so I should get it at some point in September.

Alix Summers, a popular podcaster, meets Josie Fair, a woman who shares the same birthday as her. Josie becomes a subject of Alix’s podcast and gradually reveals her dark secrets. However, Josie disappears, leaving Alix and her family in danger as she creates a true crime podcast about them. The mystery unfolds as Alix tries to uncover who Josie Fair really is and what she has done.

I joined this book club through Tik Tok where we read thrillers, mysteries, and horror books. This is only the 2nd month of the book club thus far. If you would like to join the Discord, CLICK HERE.

We vote each month on the book read, there is a section for free Kindle books that we share, and you can share your links to make friends!

Mallory Quinn, recently out of rehab, becomes a babysitter for the Maxwell family. She forms a bond with their son, Teddy, who starts drawing disturbing images. Mallory suspects the drawings might be linked to an unsolved murder and embarks on a mission to unravel the mystery and protect Teddy.

Libby finally got a copy of this, so I really want to read it. The Luis Ortega Survival Club is by the same author as The Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School, which I loved. BE CAREFUL going into this one because it does center sexual assault.

In this story, Ariana Ruiz, an autistic girl who struggles to be noticed, catches the attention of a popular boy named Luis. Their interaction takes a troubling turn when they have a sexual encounter at a party without clear consent. Rumors start spreading, and Ari becomes a target for harassment. However, a mysterious note leads her to a group of students determined to expose Luis for his actions. Amidst this, Ari develops unexpected friendships and feelings for another girl. To seek justice, Ari must confront the truth of what happened that night and risk everything.

Glass and Bone is an ARC I received this month and comes out on October 3rd. I’m going to save it for a little later in the month, but am still excited no less.

Nora is caught in a web of politics and love as she is forced into a marriage with a future king. She must navigate her role as a Queen while uncovering the truth about her mother’s death. War, betrayal, and heartbreak surround her as she battles to survive. Mysterious dreams add to her challenges, leaving her with choices of power, forbidden love, or simply fighting for her life.

Locally Love is this tiny novella I got as an ARC that comes out on October 3rd. I picked it because it’s set at Christmas and I am in the mood for Christmas books right now.

They fell in love during videoconferences while working from home. Despite challenges, like timing, doubts, and coworker issues, they made it work. Sam moved to be with Hazel, and they created a new life together.

Now, Sam wants to propose, but unexpected obstacles keep getting in his way. Will he be able to make it happen and get a “yes” from Hazel amidst all the holiday chaos?
