Hello readers! Today’s post is a Let’s Talk Bookish. I really loved the idea of talking about the many different platforms in which the book community exists. What is your favorite platform to talk about books? Is it different from the platform you like to consume content from the most?
Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme that was originated by Eternity Books and is currently hosted by Book Nook Bits. The accompanying thumbnail was also designed by Book Nook Bits. Each Friday, bloggers craft posts where they engage in discussions centered around the designated topic for the week.
Prompts: Book blogging certainly isn’t the only online book platform. From booktok to bookstagram to book twitter, there are many different places to post reviews and other bookish content. Do you only blog, or do you have other platforms too? What did you start out doing? What differences do you notice between platforms? Are there similarities?
I recently got into Booktok. I heard so many misconceptions about it on Book Twitter. Booktok is the most welcoming platform I’ve ever been on. It was actually very easy to just start making videos and grow. Of course, a lot of people like the same books, but that is common everywhere. I also heard all of them were teens who scream and cry about every book. I follow over 400 people and I don’t think any of them are teens. I only follow one person who yells, to be honest.
I’ve also been posting my Tik Toks on Bookstagram reels and Youtube shorts.
Back in 2013, I tried out Booktube. I made videos consistently for almost a year. 2014 was a huge year in my life and one of the things that was impacted was my reading and participation in the book community. In 2014, I left my 1st job, met my now husband, became homeless, got my first apartment, and my dad died. Booktube is good for readathons and reading vlogs! Readathons bring new goals into my reading and one thing I love is goals.
I occasionally participate in Bookstagram as well. Bookstagram can be quite challenging. Since I mainly listen to audiobooks, it is difficult for me to capture photos of every book I read. I believe Bookstagrammers must buy a ton of books in order to generate a substantial amount of content. Additionally, I do not possess an extensive collection of aesthetically pleasing editions or beautiful sets for my photographs. Nonetheless, I have nearly 480 followers on Bookstagram and primarily utilize it for sharing stories. I consistently update my stories with details about my reading progress and other aspects of my life. Essentially, I share anything that comes to mind.
Then, there’s Book Twitter or whatever it will be called when Twitter phases over to X. Twitter used to be my favorite platform for bookish opinions. However, I think it has become overall a negative place. Many people on Book Twitter make hate content. Of course, people do this on all platforms. It’s like people over there can’t dislike things without making others who like those things feel stupid.
The only other place I’ve reviewed books is Goodreads. I used to be a big fan of posting reviews on Goodreads, but I don’t really write there anymore. Now, I’d rather do monthly wrap ups right here where I can discuss all the books I’ve read or make a video on Booktok. I haven’t given Storygraph a go, but I’ve heard that lots of people in the community have made the switch. I’m not leaving Goodreads anytime soon.
The last platform I can possibly think of is Discord. I am in a few different groups on Discord, but I don’t keep up on them. I don’t find Discord that easy to use.
I think bloggers read the most diverse. I don’t see the same bloggers reviewing the exact same things as each other, which is nice! Not that I’m dogging on the other platforms. Each one is useful in different ways and I consume content from (almost) all the platforms.
