August TBR ft. The Final Book Support Group Readathon

Hello readers! It is almost August. How has the year been for everyone? This has been a very long one for me. I’m hoping to focus on reading series this month. I have faltered on my goals for series for sure. It’s time to fix that!

As a bonus, I also own most of these books. We are making somewhat of a dent in my TBR! I will be doubling up on a few of these. There are 7 days and 7 prompts. Most of the series I’m reading do not have tiny books I can blast through in a day.

The Final Book Support Group is a group on Discord to encourage people to finish (or continue) all those series they are reading. It was created by Booktuber Steph Loves. This readathon has a few prompts to help encourage everyone to read or continue series, just like the group. This round takes place from the 7th to the 13th.

Prompt 1: Finish a Series & Prompt 4: Veteran Sequel

This may not be the book series that I’ve been in the middle of the longst, but it is for sure the book I’ve owned the longest on my TBR.

If I don’t get to anything else on this entire list, I’ll still be happy if I make it to The Return of the King. I just need to finish this series!

Prompt 2: Continue a Series Your Unsure About

I read Click in 2022 and really enjoyed it. However, I have owned 3 books in the series this entire time and I haven’t read anything else in it yet.

Click follows a young girl named Olive who is at that age where everyone starts breaking off into clicks. However, she likes being friends with everyone. When everyone in her grade has to compete in this talent show, they break off into groups and no one asks her to join. She has a lot of friends, but not many that she is super close to. She then has to work alone to find something she is good at for the show.

Prompt 3: Use a Spinner Wheel to Pick Your Book

This is the 5th and final book in the Mr. Lemoncello series. It’s a series centering games and libraries. In book one, Kyle wins a spot in an escape room taking place in this new library. This isn’t just any library. Mr. Lemoncello, who is the Willy Wonka of board games, opens libraries all over the country that center kids. There is AI historical figures, VR games where you can ride dinosaurs, and even animatronics that sing to toddlers. If you like middle grade books and games, try this series out!

Prompt 5: Longest Series

The longest series I’m in the middle of by far is The Walking Dead. This series is around 40 books long, unless you are reading the compendiums, of course.

I read one book this month and I think it’s reasonable to try for one more in August. I have a habit of not prioritizing graphic novels, which is why you are seeing so many here.

Prompt 6: Borrow a Book

My library has this app called Library Pass where you can borrow graphic novels. I started Fence on there earlier this year and I’d prefer to catch up to the series this year at some point. There are 5 volumes currently with volume 6 to be released in January 2024.

Fencing is quite popular in movies and TV, I have noticed. However, I never see it on TV where they explain the sport itself. This series actually does that. I didn’t know how fencing worked before this. I have no interest in trying it myself, but it has always been frustrating to see it when I don’t understand it at all.

Prompt 7: Most Anticipated

I got this book earlier this year and finally want to get to it! I’m not sure if I can read the whole thing along with all the others, as it is over 500 pages.

I am really in the middle of so many Sanderson series ATM. I just really need to catch up on this one AND as a bonus, I own a copy of it.

I cannot explain how excited I am for this book. Family Lore is my #1 priority this month! Acevedo is one of my all-time favorite authors and she hasn’t published a book in THREE YEARS.

I know it follows a bunch of different people in one family. One of the family members is psychic and sees her own death and many different family secrets are exposed.
