Hello readers! I know this is a 2nd post in a day, but I just had to make this. The previous post was scheduled and this one is impromptu. I was back and forth with doing this readathon for the past month and have decided last minute to do it!
I am having such a hard time lately finding readathons that fit my reading mood at that moment. So many of the ones going right now are centered in fantasy, which is fine, but I’m not in the fantasy mood.
Summerween is a readathon that happens three times a year and it centers on reading spooky books, no matter what time of the year it is. There is Summerween, Winterween, and a mini one around Hallowwen-time called Weekendween. It originally started in the summer about 4 years ago and was for those people who can’t wait for the spooky season to get here.
I usually skip all of that stuff most years and start feeling like celebrating Christmas by late August. I simply adore Christmas!
It was created by Gabby Reads and Olivia Reads a Latte, both from Booktube. You can click on either of their names to see their announcement videos along with all the details. This round happens from the 7th to the 13th and has 5 prompts, so let’s jump into the TBR!
Prompt 1: Read a book in the dark or at night

I understand that this book is non-fiction, but hear me out. It came from the closet explores the topic of various horror movies and their influence on individuals within the LGBT community. For example, in the introduction, they discuss Sleepaway Camp. In the writers opinion, it depicts an anti-trans rhetoric. Despite having watched this movie several years ago, I must admit that I had not previously considered this particular perspective.
As a total horror movie enthusiast, I am beyond stoked to dive headfirst into this one and I’m hoping I’ve already seen most of the movies they’re talking about. I only managed to listen to the introduction today, so I’m totally counting this one as part of tomorrow’s official readathon kickoff!
I’m gonna start chapter one right at midnight tonight. The first chapter is by Carmen Maria Machado and it’s all about The Exorcist, which actually happens to be a horror movie I’ve never seen.
Seriously, what is your favorite scary movie?
Prompt 2: Read a thriller

I read Local Woman Missing a few years ago now and I haven’t had the chance to explore more works by this author. I absolutely adored that book, it left a lasting impression on me for sure!
Jake Hayes is missing. His wife, Nina, initially believes he went to a friend’s house to calm down after their argument. As time passes, Jake remains nowhere to be found.
Lily Scott, Nina’s coworker and friend, believes she might have been the last person to see Jake before he vanished. Lily confesses everything to her husband, Christian, and they both agree to keep the events leading up to Jake’s disappearance secret, especially from Nina. Despite this, Nina is determined to find her husband and will continue her search until she uncovers the truth.
Prompt 3: Read a book set in Autumn/Fall

I actually have no idea if this is set in fall! I’m taking a guess because finding the season a book is set in is not easy. Let me know if you’ve read this series and if I’m right or wrong.
This is a cozy fantasy series following a witch named Mika Moon. Mika knows she has to hide her magic, be low-key, and not hang out with other witches so their powers don’t mix and attract attention. Even though she lost her parents as a kid and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and always follows the rules. But she has one exception: she pretends to be a witch online, thinking no one would take it seriously.
But someone does. They urge her to go to the secluded Nowhere House and teach three young witches how to control their magic. Even though it goes against the rules, Mika decides to go and gets caught up in the lives and secrets of her three students and the people at Nowhere House, including an archaeologist, an actor, and two caretakers. Jamie, the good-looking but prickly librarian, sees Mika as a threat but also finds her intriguing. As Mika starts to fit in at Nowhere House, she starts to believe she could have a real family. But there are dangers other than magic, and when a threat arrives, Mika must choose if she’ll risk everything to protect her newfound family.
Prompt 4: Read a book with orange or black on the cover

This book has been lurking around in so many TBRs here on this blog. Seriously, feel free to call me out if I somehow manage to dodge reading it this month! Meddling Kids is like an LGBT remix of Scooby Doo.
In 1990, the Blyton Summer Detective Club, who used to be teenage detectives from a small mining town called Blyton Hills in Oregon, are now adults. They haven’t seen each other since their last case in 1977. Andy, who is a tomboy, is currently running away from the law and wanted in multiple states. Kerri, who was once very smart as a child and wanted to be a biologist, is now working as a bartender in New York. She is having a hard time with drinking too much alcohol. She has a Weimaraner named Tim, who is related to their original canine member of the team. Nate, who really likes horror stuff, has been in and out of mental health institutions for the past thirteen years. He currently lives in a place for people who have mental health problems in Arkham, Massachusetts. His only friend left is Peter, who used to be handsome and good at sports. Peter became a famous movie star but has been dead for a long time. The group decides that it’s time to find out what is causing their nightmares and go back to where everything started for them in 1977. This time, they hope it won’t be someone pretending to be a monster, because the real monsters are waiting for them.
Prompt 5: Read a manga, graphic novel, or novella

The Walking Dead wrapped up last year and I actually got into reading the books around that same period. Let me tell you, these books are absolutely wild! The romantic storylines alone are enough to make this series a must-read. I totally recommend diving into this series if you’ve been following the show. Trust me, it’s a whole different experience!
If you’re a fan of your local library and enjoy using apps like Libby or Hoopla, then you might be interested in this cool app called Library Pass/Comics Plus. It’s specifically designed for borrowing graphic novels, which is pretty awesome. Personally, I really wish they had this app available on Kindle, but unfortunately, it’s not there yet. Hopefully, they’ll consider adding it in the future!
